If the BBMF are starting to think of the next Lancaster identity after ‘Mickey’, i think we have a contender, (see stormbird’s last post) :dev2:
🙂
Not one of mine, but a stunner from airliners.net…..
http://www.airliners.net/open.file/839507/L/
I wonder if the photographer visits here, of so, nice one 🙂
I reckon this choice of livery is spot on, with its bright white, and bold, simple dark blue/black graphics, it compliments the tinted one piece blisters far better than a camo schme would have.
I remember seeing a picture (in Flypast) of one of these bright white air sea rescue Cats with some rather nice nose art, I wonder if there will be any on this version?
Agreed, I would love to go but as a young student/Dakota promoter/classic aviation office junior/tea & coffee maker/graphics dept. (to name a few) I cannot afford it….
….but on the strength of last year it looks like a good day for a casual Duxford visit 🙂
Add to the list a fairly substantial fuselage section At Flambards, Helston. The largest remaining chunk of early mark Shack’
(it is best that I shorten it to Shack’, as i have a terrible habit of spelling it with an ‘elton, as in John. As anybody with a FlyPast wallplanner will see. To the blackboard, write a hundred times, it ends ‘leton 😀 😀 )
I wonder if it will be up for sale/being chucked out, before long?
Wow! Looks rather sporty as a single seater, I had not seen that one before 🙂
Thanks for the input chaps, nice to think that I got to see a Varsity fly once in my life, as I cannot imagine what else it could have been!
What kind of work was ‘679 involved with at the RAE, or was it mysterious ‘secret squirell’ hush hush kind of stuff?
Has it been announced whether the early-style cockpit (sat in the foreground in the picture) is to be used, there appears to be some rivet-related developments…..
…starting to daydream about Blenheim colour schemes, a nice ‘Spirit of Britain First’ all over silver would look interesting… 🙂
Fascinating stuff! Any more of the Firefly drone, or the Avenger?
Thanks for sharing 🙂 (PS That is a nice looking Twin Pin!)
“Unsuitable terrain or takeoff/landing/taxi area .. selected .. pilot in command”
From the link above… does this mean they were trying to land on a taxiway?
Another sticker, for Mike…
The model Vulcan used for the sinking scene now sits in a hangar at Bruntingthorpe, and is used as a travelling exhibit for the ‘Vulcan to the Sky’ project… it is quite big!
It is hidden away in one of the storage hangars, on its wheels but I’m not sure whether it has wings. Cosford used to have a Viking as well (airliner version of the Valetta) but this is now at Brooklands, the one you are thinking of.
I remember reading that the Cosford Valetta was stored due to ‘corrosion problems’, does anybody know anything about its state or of any future plans?
PS The Viking is less unique now that one has been dragged from he back of a warehouse in France and is now, I think, being restored. In many areas, things are looking up for the population of large Vickers twins, hopefully the Duxford example will have a brighter future too!
Were the L39s in one of the more recent ones (Goldeneye?) not from the OFMC? A friend of mine has some fantasic photos taken during filming, including a picture of Pierce Brosnan sitting in a mock up L39 cockpit with a big ‘wheel of fortune’ style wheel with painted scenery on being spun to give the impression of an aircraft spinning out of control!
close up…
