Is there anything to replace it in its position by the cafe at Culdrose?

If I have some jetcal sheet left over I will bring you some that you could print ATLANTIC onto.

I am currently building a 1:72nd scale concept model of my transatlantic ekranoplan for my degree show (four weeks to go 😮 )- as the wingspan is a few metres shy of an A380 is is about a metre wide!

To give it scale, I have dug old some old airfix ground crew, so my display will be populated by a chap waving with bats, some fuellers and the obligatory guy on a bicycle (that represents me), and also on of those little ‘carorama’ Landrovers.

As for the livery… full Air Atlantique colour scheme of course 🙂

    Good morning Tom 🙂

Did you paint the Air Atlantique titles and osprey on, or did you make your own transfers? I have got some ‘Jetcal’ printable waterslide decal paper on order for my university project and was wondering if anybody has any experience using it, have any of the modellers out there tried this method?

That is a really beautiful model by the way, can’t wait to see the Twin Pin! I remember having the 1:72nd Matchbox kit of a Meteor NF11 whan I was young, but swapped it, unmade, with a friend for something else, now I wish I had kept it so I could have tried my own mini-classic flight!

Is it right that the owners at Sheppards would consider a swap for a Harrier? With all of the Sea Harriers coming onto the preservation scene there might be scope for a deal.

Maybe the FAAM museum could offer one of the less significant Sea Harriers (one without combat history etc..) to save a direct relative of some of the interesting Supermarine jets stored at Yeovilton. Did the Swift have any naval history ? (not that I’m aware of but it is not a subject I have much background knowledge on)

Alternatively could the Swift form an exhibit in nearby Cosford’s new cold war exhibition? Conserved in its present condition (but kept indoors with steps taken to stop further corrosion), it could demonstrate how the rapid pace of change during the cold war led to ‘high tech’ aircraft with very short service lives….

…the fact that it has SURPLUS painted down the fuselage in big letters would make it an interesting exhibit in this context!!!!!

PS. ~Suddenly feeling rather guilty~ Sorry about hijacking your thread Mark12 😮

‘SV under more helpful photographic conditions…

I have often looked at the T-6 imagining how working on a Dak would be ideal practise for the smaller more fiddly version!

Some great pictures here, they really sum up the hive of activity! My dad has just emailed me this picture from his birthday Rapide flight, which makes an interesting comparison with the Prentice one…

Slightly off topic (but next door), the adjacent surplus/outdoors/garden centre for a long while has been home to a Supermarine Swift. I haven’t visited for a couple of years, is it still there? I have not heard any news about it lately.

Presumably one potential avenue for proper preservation has closed off now that ‘Solent Sky’ have secured a Swift in better condition.

The end of an era, the beginning of a new one….

An interesting Dakota milestone, that ought to be recorded for posterity…

The Classic Flight Experience Day on Saturday (24/04/05) was probably the final public event featuring a former Air Atlantique C-47 in full ‘Pollution Control’ spec. G-AMSV, now firmly under the wing of the Mustang Restoration Company took a starring role in the static display at the event, along with a display of Mustang information and artefacts.

The 1:72 scale models on show demonstrate the transformation that is about to take place. The aircraft, whilst outwardly a ‘warbird’ will still be able to undertake a wide variety of tasks and like so many other Dakotas, will continue to ‘earn its keep’.

Visitors on Saturday were able to inspect the interior, with its fascinating array of tanks, pipes (and dipsticks 🙂 ), I took the chance to record the interior of a truly historic, working aircraft.

The last flight, to date, of ‘SV was at the Coventry Classic Airshow of 2003, the next flight, after some inspection and refurbishment, should not be too far into the future.

Can anybody explain the significance of the enlarged air intakes. Is is simply larger diameter (turbofan??) engines bolted to the front of the nacelles?

For starters there are some nice pictures here:

If we call that thread part one, this can be Daktacular part two!
There should be some good pictures for this part of the thread coming up tomorrow.

Fingers crossed for good weather 😎
