A leak, our paint scheme security has been breached!
Kev.. how on earth did you find out about the secret back-up plan (just in case there was not enough blue paint and masking tape for the Transport Command scheme)?
I was rather keen on this version 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Thanks for the link James, the shortstop site gives me some ideas for any future revamping of the AACF one.
Did you get your ‘Promota copy, I could use some constructive criticism before we emabark on the next one 🙂
Albert, if it is any consolation the bare metal engine cowlings are apparently in line for a serious polishing. 🙂
Come on feel the noise…….
Better weather today, I popped in to do some interior decorating in the Twin Pin, and got these pictures… back where she belongs 🙂
…that’s nothing, you want to hear two of them (DC6s) doing a ‘synchro pair’ display routine! Does anybody have any pictures of this happening…
PS. Near enough the same league, A10s are cool 😀
Fascinating stuff, a common thread running through the histories of early aircraft seems to be adventurous/amateurish adventures after they had passed through the ‘second hand market’.
I remember reading about the Sopwith Camel, now at Hendon, that was bought by a bold private flyer who re-engined it with a small rotary (presumably whatever came to hand at the time) that had less than half the horsepower that Sopwith had intended- must have made for adventurously marginal flying 😮
and where is that ?
MMM, interesting, do you have any more pictures of Firefly drones?
😮 😮 😮 😮 😮 😮 😮 😮 😮
I just left the airfield an hour or so ago, if I had stayed for a few more minutes depleting Air Atlantique’s tea supply I would have seen it. Bugger!
I think it was one of the ‘sixes , there were some guys putting fuel in G-APSA earlier- the one that isn’t painted black underneath.
PS Are you going to be in on Saturday, you will like what has been done with the Dak 🙂
PS IF ANYBODY FROM OPERATIONS IS LISTENING I WOULD NOT BE OFFENDED IF THE ‘SIX WAS ROUTED OVER THE FOOTBALL GROUND, AT A RESPECTABLE ALTITUDE OF COURSE :p
Fran from Travis…. unlikely, since last time he was at Duxford he was strafed by a Buchon (presumably G-BOML), for some video or other!
Ta Daz, I was highly commended at school for the Stukas in my history book (quite what they has to do with cotton mills and the industrial revolution is somewhat debatable!)
I was quite pleased in hindsight with the Spitfire canopy…
… oh yes and if you want some line drawings for book illustrations… 😉
Lovely pictures, I like the look of ‘Eclat’ , that kind of shine gives a lowly Anson degreaser something to aspire to 🙂
What kind of colour scheme is it on that equally shiny Dakota?
Had to have a go (I promise these were done without any pictures to hand to copy!!). My Spitfire is alright but the rear of the fuselage looks too chunky, the Hurricane has not got enough front end, my Sea Fury appears to belong to an air force that has dinosaurs in its roundels, and the Buchon looks like an anorexic Griffon Spitfire 😀
I found myself having to make the plan shape of the wings thicker at the end of the drawing on most of them
There ought to be some way around this, just think of road tax exemptions for classic cars (which I believe is now fixed at pre 1970-something). This is a good example of what you would expect to be a faceless governmental revenue earning type of setup offering a helping hand to what is a minoirity interest…
Pleasure flying in a DC6….. you never know, currently you would have to bring your own seats, and windows for that matter. However, imaginative ways to keep the ‘sixes FLYING into the future are being considered so watch this space 🙂
PS.. I thought I should add that Dragon Rapide G-AGTM’s mishap was with a previous operator (I think when it played the part of a Royal Navy Dominie in attractive silver with roundels), prior to her subsequent overhaul and dark blue paint scheme!
Greg.. now is a good time for some relaxing Twin Pinning around the sky, she has a freshly refurbished interior, hope to see you soon!
Goldfinger……. :diablo:
