See this recent thread, G-AIDL is the white/silver Rapide, still looked after at Coventry.

I have a pretty comprehensive history of its owners, activities somewhere, bear with me…..

Are there any other pictures of ‘DL or this event, which does look a lot like the big concrete aprons at Culdrose, possibly…

The kind of things you can expect to see (these are all winter shots, the place changes a great deal for the ‘experience’) 🙂

Goodwood revival 2004, with our Rapide G-AGTM. Some of the characters are so accurate it is quite spooky! It was quite funny to see one of them, naming no names, answering his mobile phone! Though in fairness, he was doing his VERY best to hide away and look inconspicuous, they try really hard to get the atmosphere right!

…oh well as somebody mentioned it then here goes 😉

If anybody fancies a flight in a Devon (new to the pleasure flight fleet), Prentice, Twin Pin, DC3 or Rapide then Baginton on the 23rd is the place to be, (pre booking essential). The Shackleton normally gets some exercise as an added attraction!

I should be there in some capacity, do come and say hello 🙂

There is some interesting stuff about it and its link to the Bristol (188?) stainless steel test aircraft in a book called ‘British Experimental TurboJets’ or similar that is in Coventry library…

..or at least it will be when I return it, I can send you a PM 🙂

I believe this Spitfire has a Clipped wing for performance reasons not due to workshop space, Oh thanks for the double posting award thats what happens when P.C has a crash dueing a posting but i will off course treasure this Award 😀 .

No, the award goes to Dan Johnson, for coming up with the same answers at the same time as me 😀

But lets not fight..you can keep it if you like :p

Another off the top of my head….. Victor tankers- something to do with reducing fatigue in the spar I think….

Oh yes… and Fleet Air Arm Corsairs- though it had more to do with fitting them below decks with the wings folded.

The contra prop Spitfire PR19 currently causing excitement/rumour has non standard clipped tips due to the small workshop it was rebuilt in- or is this an urban myth

    🙂

Yes but they weren’t ‘clipped’ as such, the wing area was much the same, even a little more on the squre tipped ones

I think the same is pretty much true for the later Thunderbolts- the ‘squared off wing’ was actually a larger, all new design. Though I may be wrong….

The CAF have an example recovering from a landing accident/fire.

For anybody interested in Catalinas, Stuart Powney is doing a talk about ‘Plane Sailing’ and their involvement with them on the 27th Jan at Sywell- somebody out there probably has more precise details.

I can’t find ‘wingsoverwarwickshire’ within the Yahoo groups pages, and the website of the same name does not seem to have been updated for a few years and has no discussion group. Am I looking in the right place- I am unfamilliar with the discussion groups in Yahoo

    Thanks for any help 🙂

Dave-It seems bizarre that WK800 which whilst having a lot of flying hours and kept in immaculate condition(from what I remember) is to be used for spares salvage. Is there a demand for these spares?. In my opiniion it the aircraft should have been offered for sale as a static at least being the last example of this MK.

    Thanks

    Paul

I think the spares recovery is to empty it of the drone control bits and pieces, probably leaving it subsantially in one piece for anybody who might give it a good home. Personally, I would like to see it preserved as a drone with all the lumps and bumps (mostly as that is how I remember it flying- blimey, getting nostalgic about 2003 😀 ), but if somobody was to fly it as an F8, I certainly would not be complaining.

Whatever happens, they all deserve a good home- for a Meteor drone to survive into the 21st century is an amazing survival story, from having missiles chucked at it to droning aound doing circuits and bumps training jindivik pilots.
