Here is the Cosford example, taken a couple of months ago. This is one of two static examples owned by the RAF museum (if they kept just one static, and then… you can see where this is going 😉 )
(also here is its current stablemate, the Me410, very similar in size but not nearly as good looking!)
Does anybody know the plans for the old nose, as it is still in pretty good shape it would make a great static exhibit to peer into (sit in  )
Superb! The picture I posted is on one hand a terribly sad sight but also, with the new nose, a very exciting one. Good luck to all involved, I can’t wait to see it 🙂
No problem, I might be going over there next week as well, if I get time- hopefully I can put in another update. I will have a search for any pictures I have of the RAF museum’s other Mosquito, the one sitting quietly next to the Catalina at Cosford… bear with me 🙂
I noticed that the (mark 1) nose is now sitting by the recovering Blenheim, the updates posted by the collecting tin/ bomb 😮 bring encouraging news but do not commit to which nose it is planned to have, have any decisions been made yet? (Pocketful of change deposited 😉 )
Here is the Duxford Mosquito as of today (7th December)- when I first heard of the idea of a target tug repaint it was a case of ‘I’ll belive it when I see it’ but here you go 😀 (Target tug versions always look great, I guess they saw Hendon’s Tempest and just had to get some yellow and black paint!)
Either that or a case of coordinating aircraft colours with traffic cones- see top picture 😀 ….
Hello John, that sounds like an interesting idea, and I am building up a portfolio of this kind of thing at the moment so working for free is no bother to me, all part of the fun 🙂 I can’t promise anyhing in the near future due to a huge pile of commitments, university projects and an exciting new aviation journal (watch this space) are taking up a lot of time at the moment, but sometime soon I would like to have a go…
Some of my previous stuff is somewhere here….

Thats the one.. a work of art in balsa wood!
Hopefully I should be at Duxford tomorrow (clever planning of my University project has ensured that Duxford is a vital research visit 😀 ), I have heard the Mosquito there is in the spray booth becoming a target tug- I will try to get some photos 🙂
That Bear is amazing, the method of rubbing aluminium powder over the whole thing gives it a brilliant finish and apparently only adds 8oz to the weight.
I have seen the big Vulcan display at Bruntingthorpe- does anybody know if the (nearly finished) gas turbine Comet that was there in the spring has flown yeat, that really was a beauty! 🙂
Wow, I had never noticed how much longer the fuselages of those turbo Daks are (it looks like the front end has been stretched), as well as the nacelles. I think they look pretty good, but I imagine many people would disagree! -Any way ‘vive la difference’, good to see them still hard at work!
PS.. More information on the fleet can be found on the new classic flight website http://www.classicflight.com see your free FlyPast wall chart for more 😀
Finally, some shots passed on to me by a friend of AACF’s participation in ‘Rapide Legends’ in the summer. No prizes for guessing the airfield in the aerial shot, but feel free to play ‘spot the Dakota’, the camoflage paint applied by the BBMF evidently works very well, only the shadow gives it away! I thought it was nice to see some ‘real’ photos for a change, I am a complete digital convert yet there is something nice, albeit slightly blurry, about these offerings 😀
Some more pictures, with more on the theme of ‘motorcycles and big American radial engines’ 😉 -And for balance, something with nice little Alvis engines!
Temporary paint, how long does it last
This is G-AMRA, a few weeks after the Remembrance Sunday flypasts in London. It had been planned to wash the paint off straight after, but a request was made to leave it on for a charity event later in the month, by which time it was looking a bit worse for wear. Also included is a shot of how she normally looks, for comparison 😀
