Looks fabulous, am I right in thinking the Martinet is a target towing version of the Master, looking forward to the final paint scheme 😀 😀
Anybody who missed the Skyraider display at Flying legends must try and see it sometime soon, impressive is not the word, was anybody at Culdrose today, I think it was displaying there…
But surely ML407 is a legend of both the second world war and certainly a legend of the modern preservation scene, anyway, she displayed to another appreciative audience (near Rugby IIRC) on Saturday night, see the ‘Rapides at Duxford’ thread, you can never tire from seeing a spitfire, even if you have seen several of them already earlier in the day 😉
There was something particularly evocative about the views of the three mark V Spitfires and the Me108 parked by the control tower from the raindrop covered window of G-AIDL, before anybody complains about the slightly more modern vehicles creeping into the shots, remember that ‘Legends is a perfect place to stand back, squint a little and employ a little imagination! It was easily the best Duxford show I have ever seen (OK, of about four but they were good ones!), the organisers and everybody involved did a brilliant job! All of the Rapide related fun was the icing on the cake! Roll on next year… (ps. any more Rapide pics out there, these fantastic machines deserve a thread of their own!)
Safely back to a decidedly damp Baginton on Saturday night, sharing the tarmac with a distinguished visitor…
A little hasty pressing the buttons there, here is the post in all of its (due apologies for hopeless point and press digital camerawork 😀 ) glory, some of the pictures have been put into greyscale to add some character and make up for the lack of much colour in the first place…
Easy…. rapide, grass, lift off 😀 , it has been covered in a thread before here, a once in a lifetime experience worth trying again and again!
For a more legends specific one, Skyraider, climbing +rolling 😮 , how does that much aeroplane manage that, absolutely unforgettable…
I will be there at some stage over the weekend, depending on commitments with Air Atlantique. With a bit of luck I will be able to say hello to whoever is around at some stage, all I know for sure is that I wont be able to be around late on Saturday or early on Sunday, so will miss out on the other meetings which is a shame.
At the weekend I was at the annual Vintage Sports Car Club hill climb at Shelsley Walsh, near Worcester. The star of the event (in terms of sheer engine size, noise and tyre smoke) was the Napier Lion engined Bentley special. I think the commentator said that the engine was recovered from a barn and once saw service in an airship (though these facts may have been slightly confused due to engine noise 😮 ). Does anybody else know more about the history of this engine/ car combination, I will try to dig out some old pictures of it 🙂
PS It’s main claim to fame is the inscription on the engine cover..
‘NAPIER BENTLEY- The ultimate laxative’ 😀 😀
Brilliant stuff, the Morane especially. Is it similar to the restorable parts that recently tuned up somewhere in the UK?
Is that bit of coast north Cornwall/Devon, or am I wide of the mark (the increasingly irritating wind back here has blown a substantial bit of tree onto my head, so my geographical reasoning may have taken a bit of a battering, good job I had my bike helmet on, although my poor old mountain bike thing was way beyond its crosswind limits!)
PS. The latest code of conduct sticky thing is (quite rightly) discouraging ‘text’ language but (even more rightly) leaves the poetry that is Molesworth speak well alone, long may this continue (chiz)
Are there any Sea Venoms still flying  (I guess they would present an unrealistically costly restoration given the availabilty of nice crated nearly airworthy swiss single seaters), that said, one would make an amazing sight in the sky!
PS, Does anybody have a picture of the Flambards/Jet Age Museum example with all of its markings, pre or post repaint? (Or any other Flambards pics, they dont make theme parks like that anymore etc  )
Cheers. Will
As far as I know one of the DC6s was in preparation for a flight when I last saw it (Friday), although I am not sure exactly when. The description sounds about right though 🙂
Ah! I was sure I remembered a Sea Venom there when the collection was at its biggest, that picture jogged my memory! Thanks very much for that 🙂
