All fine drinks, but no mention of Batham’s…

(But you can only get hold of it if live near enough to Halfpenny Green to hear the local Yak rumbling around of an evening 😀 )

Yes please, I’m thinking of making a small ducted fan flying model, I think a jindivik would be perfect as..

..It would confuse people at the local flying site 😀

..you can make a nice scale model without needing to vacuum form a canopy or bother about painting a pilot

..and the idea of making a radio controlled version of a radio controlled aircraft appeals to me for some reason, (my bizarre interest in drones and target tugs, or any aircraft with stripes of any kind has no real explanation)

[QUOTE=kodak]More from the good ole days

Very nice. I spent a week at shell island in the summer, I thought the meteors had either been pensioned off or shot out of the sky years ago but no, I spent much of the week watching one doing circuits (im afraid any photos I took were of the vague metor shaped speck in the distance kind  ). I will never forget sitting on the harbour wall on at the end of the runway with the meteor seeming to get lower on each approach! Also watching a jindivik launck from one of those little trolleys looks a lot like a Me163 taking off (must have been the suprisingly sunny weather doing stange things to my imagination 😀 ). Risking delving into modern territory, the unnoficial displays by the little Alpha Jets while they wait to sheperd the drones are worth a look, especially the tight turn low to the sand dunes onto the runway to pick up the Jindivik.

Any more photos like those above? I will try to dig out any of mine worth showing….

There is another modified F8 on the airfield, without wings but these appear to be part of a pile of bits near the main buildings, im sure I read that this static one was destined for a museum. Also if Llanbedr closing means the end of Jindivik flying there, surely some of them could make nice small exhibits for small (or large) museums.

There was a story of an ex Tornado pilot taking up a senior position at Llanbedr, and having to keep quiet about the couple of Jindiviks that he had inadvertantly shot into the sea, as it became apparent to him that the ground crews were quite attatched to various drones and he may just have shot down somebody’s ‘pet’ 😀

Was very impressed with the Beech, cant wait to see it flying (and hopefully sounding like two Harvards in very close formation!!) 😮

The Comet was running and seemed in good health. Plus a miniature version appeared next to the model Vulcan, still in bare balsa wood but looking very impressive!

The masters of this particular art used to be the Shuttlewoth collection and their mk.5 Spitfire, although since its post Pearl Harbour repaint it is looking very nice, but a bit too tidy:D

It always used to have a nice slightly ‘well used’ look. Nothing daubed on, just proper scratches in the paint etc. If anyone can find a picture of it four or five years ago you will see.

As for now, give it a year or two!!!

    Absolutely brilliant:D

PS. What is the aircraft in the background of the photo showing the civil reg. on the tail. Is it a modified Yak?

Strangely enough I was at Hendon all day today, and cant help but agree with everything said here…

Dug this out from my Dad’s collection (Flight International Picture Pagent, the RAF and its Museum 1972).. Great things, lofts full of ‘junk’:D

I quizzed him on the subject and he remembers the good old days fondly, I only know it as the funfair it is today

I managed to sneak some spare time to have a look around the museum at Baginton yesterday, taking advantage of the perfect un Coventry like weather:D I got talking to a bloke making a nice job of repainting their own NF11 in its original Duxford night fighter markings, he then mentioned that the airworthy example was due in some time in the afternoon. I managed to end my visit at just the right time, and drove around to the end of the runway, just in time to see the Meteor make a low pass and then land (nice and low over the fence:) ).

It was one of those perfect spring days that remind you that the airshow season is not far away:cool: 😎

PS. I am obviously massively in debt to the guy sitting in the NF11 who gave me the vital insider knowledge;)

The Grace Spitfire not real enough? I would have thought with its history it would be particularly appropriate around the D day anniversary! Also it is very recognisable to the general public visitor with its exposure on prime time ‘Spitfire Ace’ programmes, that would seem like two good enough reasons to include it in flying legends.

As far as ‘something different’ for the enthusiasts among the crowd, how about a four ship formation of Spitfire two seaters, it will be the first time in a long while that that has been possible. Who would lead???

Just an idea.. but if anybody out there could make it happen;)

With all this talk of Gannets, we are forgeting the fantasically ugly Short Seamew, a direct competitor that looked broadly similar but somewhat undernourished in comparison!
That said it is still one of my favourate aircraft:)

I agree about the Argosy, it was a bit worrying to see it parked out on the airfield next to the dog agility course. (…and for our next canine obstacle, the ‘Whistling Wheelbarrow…:D ), seriously though, I hope it will be back up at the museum soon.
