I seem to remember reading a book about the making of the Battle of Britain film which said that the BBMF MkIIa was the favourite Spit of the film pilots.
Happy Birthday Roy,
Hope you have a gud un matey. 😀
A few years ago an author of an article in one of the recognised aero modelling mags pulled a similer stunt at a meet of his local modelling club.
He doctered a set of scale drawings to suggest a twin Spitfire, his varient being from a pair of low back MK.XIV fuselages. He then made a rubber powered model of this invention and with his forged drrawings for documentation took great delight in hearing a lot of the so called experts of the club telling other “less informed” modellers about the history of this little known Spitfire varient.
Is it me or does the pic Chris Broad posted look like ML407. A Spitfire made for 4?:D
Great news that the DC-6 is in demand for displays.
You mention that she is booked for several displays this year, can you confirm which ones she is going to be at?
I think it was 1954. Try this www as it covers the history of Coventry Airport.
Oh poor old Kev. Do you not realise some of us work all dayand dont have time to visit the forums as we are so busy???????
But like all good soap plot lines we all remember in the end it was just one big surprise to make you feel unloved. Honest 😉
Happy birthday big fella, will buy you a drink when I see you next. 😀
Ive never been a fan of replicas but Ive seen the 190 twice at duxford over the last month or so and Im captivated by it.
The aircraft looks stunning does not look out of place alongside the dare I say real Hurri, Buchon and Spit.
I cant wait to see her up in the air and at that show Im not going to mention 😮
Congratulations Peter. Heres to another 3500 :p
So what if they were useless they are still part of our history and surely a few deserved to be saved?
I think it will make a rather nice display item. Differant as well.
There’s a few people I would love to nominate for target practice if your short of bods 😉
Here’s a few of our Whirlwind.
Oooops all in the old colours Im afraid 😀
Weve given you a sneaky pic of the old girl and I think that if anyone is interested in seeing some more of her new colours they should come along to our museum and have a peek at her.
As nice as posting on the web is it don’t pay for the materials to restore, paint and care for our ladies 😉
All I will say and no disrespect to the pic Les posted, it doesnt do her justice, you need a full on side view to appreciate the new scheme and realise just how diff and atractive she now looks.
Ive praised the Beech 18 already on other threads Mr Langham as you well know. :p
I saw you in the Beech Hanger on the Cold War weekend. Finished my conversation with one of the chaps I was with turned around and then you’d gone.
Fingers crossed I will be there. Catch up with you then.
You say the camera needed protecting from the rain? I think it was you that needed that matey.
Never seen someone go so blue before. With every min that went by you looked more and more like Papa Smurf. 😮
Bloomin wet and windy but well worth the trip.
As much as I hope the Vulcan flys my money and support went to the Lightning Preservation Group. Fantastic project and cant wait to see the QRA shed operational.
I can only confirm that it WONT be the Black Arrows scheme again.
If I revealed anything else at this stage Roger Im afraid it would be upon fear of being shot.
And we wouldnt want that now would we? 😀
Nice posting youve done there Les,
Ive got to agree the new colour scheme looks a lot better than the last, and as you said bringing the Whirlwind upsite really does allow the museum to make more use of her.
I think Malc compared the new scheme to that of a Moggy Minor such as Nurse Glady’s from Open All Hours would drive. Odd comparison but we nodded our heads in agreement if only to make him feel better. 😉
Glad you liked mine and Marks efforts with the outline on the grass. Time and poor weather stopped us being really silly and getting the whole shape marked out, and also adding COMING SOON in big letters across the marked out wings. 😀
In all the articles read and vids watched of the making of Memphis Belle Ive never once heard the Beech been mentioned not even as a camera ship.
I will probably be proven wrong but maybe just there on the day??????
