As an ex employee Blue robin you never found out? 😀
As a present employee though I dont know the answer. I know they have a cracking archive of pictures which some of the chaps in our office have been putting on the company www. Also have been adding some cracking cutaway drawings from over the years.
I would point you to this link. Oh its Vickers Viscounts. Wonder why I should try and drum up some followers on that type 😮
Either way even if your not a fan of the magazine I highly recommend a peek in the above mentioned areas. For the historics fan there is some cracking stuff.
If its arson it’s beyond believe that someone could and would do such a thing to something so important to our history.
Its not the point but reports coming from the Cutty suggest that it isnt as bad as had first been feared. Lets all hope so.

I was at Hulavington yesterday as well seeing PA474.
Looking fantastic and already showing some nice exhaust stains on the upper wings giving her (if it was already necessary) some character.
Was surprised just how many flypasts we got from her.
Like wise John shows how time moves on and everything becomes outdated eventually.
Great names no longer in active service. I found an old poster the other week that I had as a child. I think I got free from an RAF Recruitment stand aircraft at The Stoneleigh Town and Country fair.
So many great aircraft mentioned Victor, Jaguar, Harrier GR3, Phantom, Lightning, Canberra, Buccaneer, Chipmunk.
I can honestly say I didnt really appreciate what was flying around as a child.
Ps I would have added the Hunter on the list but having just resumed useful service to the RAF it seems that type just lives on and on.
Wasnt the RAF duvet set was it with lots of Vulcans,Jagwars and the likes?
Yep I had one of them.
Yes I am becoming a bit forgetful in my old age rnt I Bex?
You sure the compliments arn’t a cunning ploy to get me to spring into action to send an email with my address?
Well either because of that or the public shame of everyone now knowing Im forgetful an IM is now on its way. :p
I must say I never think of looking in the sections its listed in.
But yes I agree TT, Sod the Strutter and go with the Spitfire……………..but not at that price.
Now where’s my Spitfire panel gone and them sheets of plywood Ive got left from past projects. 😀
Im afraid I hadnt discovered the delights of the Flypast forum at that point. 😀
And Ive just seen that some one else has bought this to the forums attentions as well today. Not having one of my better days. 😮
Here’s a question for you all re Duxford.
I went to the place for the first time (yes its appalling ts taken that long to go) for the BBMF display. I also went within the same week for a second visit as a guest of the DAS to talk Viscounts. So Ive seen the site in short succession on a quiet and busy day.
I dont understand how in the American Museum with all the aircraft bar the P-47 and Huey you are able to walk pretty much completly under the airframes and look in the wheel bays and under the fuselages etc etc. THe B-17 for example I was able to take a load of close up pics for a planned model as I could walk under ALL the airframe.
Why in the AirSpace is this not the case. I know the Vulcan has some strategically placed rope to walk under the bomb bay and Concorde has a smilar set up for certain areas of the airframe but everything else is more roped off.
Certain exhibits in the AirSpace I can understad as they are delicate. I also understand the differance due to space and some aircraft being flyers in other Hangers.
But any ideas why the huge differance between American Museum and AirSpace?
I agree with Bex and say that I would hope if I had an airframe under my care and I coudlnt maintain it I would let the said aircraft go to a new home.
One that I deemed to be right and secure. But saying that you cant force someone to give up their property and it is their aircraft to do as they see fit no matter what we say.
In many ways we just seem to be going round and round on this one. Another three months and another Long Marston thread? 😀
You seem to have some enthusiasm Nashio as David says why not put it elsewhere to an organisation that would accept it and be grateful for it. If your local to Long Marston Im guessing you would be relatively near to Wellesbourne Aviation Museum.
I was chatting to their guys late last year and they have four (I think) people at their museum and sounded as though they would love some more volunteers.
Maybe worth having a chat with them. Cracking guys as well.
I think the fact that people can express an opinion here is a good thing. Surely it was aircraft like the Vulcan being an effective deterrant that kept us a nation with that right for may years after WW2.
People arn’t been overtly negative I would say just asking how many times can the enthusiast be asked to stump up more money.
Its like a parent being asked time and time again by their favourite but ultimately costly child for more money to get them out of trouble. There is only so many times that they will/can stump up before the parent shuts the bank.
I for one hope that they do make it into the air, and on a continued basis as it will be a fantastic feat.
But I also ask is £5.3 million on one aircraft (figure still rising) a sum that if spread around a number of projects in the UK could have done a lot more good and helped preserve more for future generations?
I dont know the answer as I see both sides of the argument. 😉
Shame about that Tom as I think with her on the flight line it would have made a nice sight.
After Id posted the comment I did think that I hadn’t seen her buzzing over the airport for a while.
Hope that we see her in the skies again sooner rather than later.
I believe this is the info your after. The Spits that took part where as follows
MK.V BM597 AR352, RF-C
MK.V AR501 AR4474, RF-Y
MK.V EP120 AR3185, RF-M
MK.VIII MV154 AR654, RF-T
The Hurricanes were the then TFC Hurricane Z7381 (G-HURI) as well as the Shuttleworth Collections Sea Hurricane Z7015 (G-BKTH).
Skyraider G-RAID was used as the UK caamera ship.
UK filming was done at Badminton and over the coast of Lydd.
Also a replica Spitfire was used for ground shots and I believe some cockpit shots.
A cracking day and nice to see the entire BBMF fleet together.
THe lead upto the end of show with the Lanc and full fleet of fighters was a wonderful sight.
Maybe an opportunity missed by the Air Atlantique Classic Flight not to take their ex BBMF Devon down to the party and offer some flights though?
The Chippies where on the flight line but didnt display.
