Many thanks for the best wish’s.

Another year older-another year wiser? Probably not in the latter case.

Had the day booked of from work today as is custom on my birthday and decided that I would venture over to Cottesmore to try and spot some Harriers. Great day with cracking weather (which is a rarity) only trouble is nothing was flying.

According to the guards on the gate they had stopped flying for the easter break. Got some nice pics of the stations gate guardian and also the Wittering one. Will post some pics later.

    Happy Easter everyone.

He/she who pays the bills has the final word what colours the aircraft appears in.

Personally Im not too fussed. Im just grateful that there is still people out there that still want to dig deep into their pockets to keep aircraft live which allows us to see aircraft in working order.

Where do you stand on Team Guinot, Albert? Surely them there Stearmans never wore those colours in service life? :diablo:

Stunning. Although it was nice to see a Spitfire in a non RAF scheme I could never get my head around the Irish colours.

This however looks stunning. Well done to all involved and thanks for sharing pics again Darren. 🙂

I was privilaged to be shown around G-RRGN two years ago. I spent about 2-3 hours at East Midlands taking detailed pics of the aircraft for a modelling project.

According to the guy who showed me around (sorry his name eludes me at the moment but a top chap) she is the most original flying Spitfire having never gone through a major restoration.

In places you can still see the original wartime paint, which is a very differant blue to that which she wears now.

Either way though she is a stunning Spitfire.

    Cheers for the posting Adrian,

Im very sad to see the Utterely Butt scheme dissapear as that was a stunning colour scheme………….. but I can see this new one been a grower.

Good luck to the guys and of course girls for the coming season.

Stunning repaint and what a change to sea (sorry about the pun) a military painted Sea Fury without the black and white stripes.

As for the two seater please add me to the list saying put her back in a silver with yellow training band scheme.

Some cracking picture’s there of some often and not so often seen types.

Especially liked the Shuttleworth F2b in the old grey/silver colours with the three guys swinging the prop.

    Thanks very much for sharing.

In that case then I remember incorrectly. I thought it was a three figure sum.

Memory obviously aint what it used to be these days. 😮

Ive got a copy at home with a diff cover.

It was also available I believe as a double tape with the history of the Nimrod which I believe also featured the AEW3 version which was floating around our skies at the time.

Anyway I remember the pic youve posted as being used in the adverts when in Flypast and the other aviation mags of the day.

Brilliant video though and nothing to worry about re the quality. A lot better than a lot of modern day efforts.

Maybe not the most glamorous aircraft that will be suggested but I would have to go for mine and Robs Viscount F-BGNR.

Stunning picture’s of my favourite preserved Spitfire.

Now if only you hadn’t popped your name across the image’s I might have been tempted to change the desktop pic on my laptop. 😀

Ive got to say she looks a lot better now that she has a sky coloured spinner once more.

Why did she go to a black spinner after all those years. Was it historically accurate?

Being a bit anoraky I know but just wondered.

I admit F1 is very differant to what we are discussing and in many ways not an ideal comparison. But I mentioned them as an illustration of marketing in the general sense. From one end of the spectrum to the other, but yes they do get the razamatazz as you describe it bang on (normally) and they do atrract sponsors year after year.

Its sad but true that the hardcore aviation enthusiast doesn’t pay the bills for these aircraft. If they did we wouldnt be having this conversation now.

How many enthusiasts say great idea to get the Vulcan flying or keep Sally B flying for example but ultimately dont dip into their pocket? It therefore means sponsorship must be gained from other areas so is it wrong to look at another field/industry to get ideas?

On the whole I would agree the marketing big wigs do get it very wrong in the aviation industry.

From an F1 loving enthusiast of the past and with marketing experiance from the Cinema industry.

Glad I made you smile though JDK :p

In one way I think your missing the point Damien. What we are discussing falls under two categories.

The first issue is that the photographers preempted the launch of the scheme.

Im sure any major sponsor wants to maximise their investment by unveiling the deal and colourscheme in their own way to generate exposure.Im sure the paid marketeers can do the job of gaining exposure far better initially than a few amatuer snappers. So the scheme to be leaked out pre-empts any publicity that they may have in mind.

Although slightly differant an ideal example in another industry is the launch of a new seasons F1 car. They hold the colourscheme back to do a launch where the journo’s and press attend to see the new scheme.

If that had leaked out to some trackside snappers do you think their launch would be so well attended?

The way I see it is that as the sponsor pays the bills so they should be allowed to unveil the scheme when and how they desire.

Secondly though after the initial sponsor launch she is she’s fair game 😀

The enthusiasts do place pictures in areas that publicise the aircraft and the marketing company might not normally hit. Great stuff. Additionally though the aircraft does need to be used more to generate exposure.

I do think doing enthusiasts days where for photographers pay X amount to be amongst a small number that can have access to the aircraft out on the pan would raise money.

Maybe like Hawker Hunter Aviation did through Flypast a few years ago where they had aircraft demonstrating undercarriage retractions, unlimited access, panels of etc etc would go down well.

The u/cart wouldnt be an easy one to do but youve got big wings that when folding look impressive. The first half of the day could be to take general pictures after that flex the wings and remove some panels for rarer shots, youd have people queing up.
