I was at long marston at last weekend and walked around the outer fence of the compund that they are in. NOt much going in with them. The last time i visited the place was about two maybe three years ago and nothing seems to have changed since my last visit. The shackleton appears in particularly poor condition. Im led to believe that the owners (and there are various people that own the aircraft in the collection) wont part with them even though they have been approached on numerous occasions.
WOW.
Fantastic footage of a display that is oh so differant. Huge soft spot for the Vampire anyway but interesting to see something made out of balsa and ply with the modern electric jet. Thanks for sharing.
Be worth the effort if you do. Some cracking aircraft on show as many in the forum will probably confirm. If you do please feel free to introduce yourself. Myself and Robmac (another forumite) will no doubt be around the Javelin so come over and say hello to us.
Agree completly Curly Boy the white scheme does look nice. I suggested a set of anti flash (pink & light blue) roundals and fin flashes would have completed the illusion and fooled a few punters as well. I can confirm that the application of yellow paint has indeed started and the lower surfaces are the correct colour, ie yellow. Was started at the backend of last week. The weather has put a temporary stop on it though.
Les if you look carefully at your picture the chap stood by the Javelin is me taking a well earnt break from working on her. Ok maybe not well earnt but a break all the same.
Hello, what an excellent find, As a member of the Midland Air Musuem (and we do tell the story of Armstrong Whitworth) I would love to see the AWA drawings of the Siskin.
Im sat at my desk at work in a very quiet office laughing rather loudly at that thought. I seem to remember the M11 having a spate of accidents in one day. Hope it wasnt you guys that caused them
I love the idea of mounting them on the side of a trannie van.
The ultimate how dare you cut me up take this you crazy fool device?????
You can tell Ive been watching toomany James Bond Films. Now your going to tell me the Trannie has operational ex Vampire Ejection seats in I guess??
That sounds like the guy that id been told about. I hadnt seen this thread but cheshire and the fact that is Russian aircraft at the site sounds to similar. Maybe I do listen to what people tell me after all?
Yep definately czech markings.
Ive heard of a guy who has got a number of russian types including a few Hinds and I think Sukhois (or similar). Wonder if this is the chap. I thought the guy Ive heard of was in Cheshire though. Maybe wrong.
Are you tempted with one for the museum TT?
I believe I may be able to answer that.
At the Midland Air Museum we also have a Hind. Big ugly egg beater but very aggresive looking.
I commented once on the horrible colour of the cockpit and was told that the colour was discovered by the Russians to be the most soothing and relaxing colour for its aircrew after conducting some trials.
Now I may be having my leg pulled but the daftness of it does make it seem plausible.
Maybe others can confirm or deny the story?
Cheers Andy,
Im guilty of the same sin. Until I hit the problem trying to contact you my in box was full as well.
Will let the Bader debate continue now.
Regards Martin.
