thanks chaps. Its a specific F4C Phantom that im looking into. trying to gain a better idea of its history and hopefully contact some ex aircrew of the airframe and gain some additional pics of her
she was however modified by AWA at Baginton (AKA Coventry Airport) to PR status after the war.
Today fulfilling my duties at my local air museum and watched the BBMF run in and break and land at the airport we r based at. The Lanc the clipped wing MK9 and the full invasion striped PR19. All viewed whilst standing on top of a sea vixen. Magic
thought I may have been correct. Wrecks and Relics book was my only source of info though. She isnt looking bad from the photos ive seen of her at Manston (thanks chaps) certainly a lot better than I rem her been in Brum. Saying that the two times I saw her was on October nights in the dark whilst taking part in aircraft rec competitions. Strangly despite her being free to walk around and admire not many cadets even paid the ole girl an admiring glance. Whats wrong with this world? Anyway thanks very much for the replies and I look forward to seeing some pics at some stage.
i was at uni in the mid/late 1990’s in west suusex. clearly rem been told of a scrap yard in the local area that had a set of valetta/viking or varsity wings crated up in their original packing case. Wonder if the story was true and if so r they still there.
re the courtesy aircraft sale. If the aircraft is up for $35,000 yes it is. Has been reduced fro the original asking price of $50,000. Im led to beleive it hasnt flown for a while and has serious corrosion in one of the wings. How true the latter comment is im unsure.
Im a fan of the Buchon but Id be scared sh8t less of the landing. The Boston has never done a lot for me. How about the Mitchell. HMMMMM. And its cheaper. So the money saved you could get rid of that horrible colourscheme.
Please all of you no more. Im beggning to dig my ref folders out already. My personal fave was his Spit G-Fire. Now how would a 1/48th Hunter, Sea Fury and Spitfire look together. Or am I going to far
Your right of course. The thing was this was meant to be an easy relaxing build. after my last project a lancaster conversion to show PA474 when at Cranfield with the Gnat wing on the top of the fuselage and no turrets. I may do G-HUNT with stripes on the 1/32nd scale Hunter kit one day. Stop filling my easily led mind with ideas. Im VERY easily led.
Im actually modelling the aircraft just after Flack sold it to the Late Mike Carlton. Ive also bottled out trying to recreate the various fuselage stripes. A ruined model waiting to happen I feel.
thanks guys. I guess I should learn to build kits straight from the box rather than pursue my own daft ideas for something a lil differant.
Yes I know what you mean about acquiring things SeaFury fan. Good choice of aircraft by the way for your ID. The trouble is Im 30 and still acquire odds and sods from various places and still treasure them. Is that a sign I havnt grown up yet?
