RE: Safety statistics and an odd fact

    Thought on statistics:

According to a statistician, if you have one foot in a bucket of boiling water and the other in a bucket of ice water, you should be at a comfortable temperature.

    Best looking?
In no particular order: VC-10, Concorde, Boeings 707 and 747.

    Worst looking?
In no particular order: Boeing 777, anything from Russia and Trident.

RE: First post: Longest time on plane?

As travel industry employee based in New Zealand, I regularly see itineraries with travel times in excess of 30 hours including transfers. The absolute fastest flight time from NZ to London is 25 hours (Auckland-Los Angeles/Singapore- London) while the fastest time to travel to Johannesburg is 29 hours. (Auckland/Christchurch/Wellington-Syndey-Perth-Johannesburg.)Many airline combinations are even longer.

Personally the longest that I have spent on the same aircraft without getting off was 40 hours. It was a BA flight in the 1980’s from Brisbane to London. It went technical in Sydney, Singapore and Abu Dhabi, and we had a weather related delay in Kuala Lumpur, the only other stop en route. I was not allowed off the aircraft as I was an unaccompanied minor, and BA did not have the airport staff on hand to look after me. The cabin crew did take me to the first class galley to have free reign of the fruit baskets and chocolate selection, so I didn’t mind too much.

I pity the travellers in the 1950’s who would spend days getting from A to B.
