From 1966, the SH-3A was superseded by the SH-3D, which had a 1419shp T58-GE-10 turbine and new electronics. The first SH-3D delivered in June 1966 was one of six ordered by the Spanish Navy. This was followed by another four for the Brazilian Navy and 73 for the US Navy. The new variant was also built under license by Agusta from 1967, following an Italian naval order for an ASW helicopter to replace the old Sikorsky SH-34. An initial batch of 24 was built for the Italian Navy and 20 for the Iranian Navy (three in the VIP version); the Italian SH-3D is identical to the American model, apart from the installation of a Teledyne Doppler radar and a search radar on the left side of the nose.

If the article is about F-5 based saeghe it seems bogus. They cannot fit a single RD-33 in it even less two. The F-5 nose cone does semm really small to be able to accomodate N019 ME.

Its meant for local consumption in the iranian public. Is IRNA goverened by the govt of iran? Does look like BS propaganda. F-5 can never take a RD-33 engine, not even the older model. Maybe the N019 ME radar would fit but the nose cone does look smaller than the Mig-29s. The F-18a/b/c/d production has stopped so I don’t really see the point of comparing with it. Mig-29A or SMT are not in the same league as E/F models anyway.

Who said F-18 is a front runner? With HAL deciding to produce RD-33 series-3 and Mig-29’s being upgraded to SMT standards Mig-35 is the front runner. The rafale/Eurofighter are dark horses because of their high cost. But I don’t think F-18 would be very cheap either. Eurofighter/Rafale with meteor and storm shadow is a deadly combo though.

The picture is a mig 29 and not F-14. The RD-33 would be small for a F-14 sized plane. Are these series-3 RD-33 or the older ones? Judging from the massive amount of smoke seen in the pic it is the older RD-33 series. Why are they upgrading with N019-ME? Why not Zhuk-M which is clearly superior. The range is clearly BS. The N019 has a detection range of 100Km for fighters. I think the N019-ME is around 120 Km.

Indian Navy reveals ambitious expansion, indigenisation programme

The Indian Navy is looking to indigenise its future requirements. Having around 135 commissioned ships in its inventory, the Navy is planning to build around 35 more ships indigenously.

The Indian Navy is keen to retain its Blue Water – ocean going – character. The ratio of Blue Water to Brown Water ships being 40 to 60 is expected to be turned around to 60 to 40. According to sources, the ships being ordered are scheduled to be commissioned and functional by 2012.

Indian Navy doctors gain much from ‘Mercy’ mission

New Delhi – Ten Indian Navy doctors, including a woman and paramedics, have returned home after serving for 102 days on the US Navy hospital ship Mercy, an experience that they say overwhelmed them and which would forever stay with them.

‘It was quite overwhelming to serve on the world’s largest floating hospital. It is an experience I shall never forget,’ Surgeon Commander Divya Gautam told reporters here.

Can Python 5 with 20+ Km range replace R-73RDM2 with a 40 km range? Since derby and python were being integrated with harriers I think they might also be considered for Jaguar IM. The R-73 is meanwhile safe as Mig-29’s, Su-30’s and LCA’s will carry them.

So can they carry it? Derby would require a radar surely.
