“In our conversation the phrase “A pointless ‘Burma Bash’ too far” came up which I think describes the situation quite nicely.”
First of all these are entirely my own thoughts .
To be very honest I do not blame Mark12 from walking away, too many times armchair critics bash away at people on any internet forum without any shred of personal experience of the subject they are talking about, comment yes, air your thoughts yes but not bash away until someone of Mark12’s standing walks away leaving the forum at a loss.
I have no doubt that there is a lot of forum members who would back me up in saying Mark12 always assists out with information freely without asking anything in return apart from a simple thank you and some respect. He may not be everybody’s cup of tea and nobody goes through life without at least upsetting a few people however that does not retract from the fact this gentleman has received more than h is fair share of disrespect of late over one subject.
I ask some of those armchair critics how much of their hard earned cash did Mark12 spend when he went overseas on a private venture to report on progress of a certain project, how much taxpayers money did Mark12 receive to pay towards his overseas jolly? I know I can say NONE , but just look at the amount of first hand information he shared with all of us !
I know through personal experience that there are some great people on this forum, very helpful and always willing to share information along with research that may have cost them a fair amount of cash/time to accumulate and then there are a few others that seem to enjoy teasing, saying yes I will help you then nothing at all but that the nature of the beast.
I am friends with a person who was once a member of this forum some years ago, a few bashed away at him with comments until he left simply because he did not let them have their own way, a case of throwing teddy out of the playpen, he has great knowledge and has helped many behind the scenes, even those in the early days of their own projects who bashed him, the comments got so personal he had to walk away from the scene resulting a member of his own family had to write to those concerned warning of possible legal action.
All I am asking is that all of us enjoy the forum, always engage brain before typing, and show some respect to those who know more about a subject than you do before we all lose out.
Mark12 has helped quite a few of my friends out and for that I would like to pass on my own along with their thanks and hopefully he will grace our forum once again in the not too distant future.

I am very sure that this subject was covered in depth, please forgive the pun :dev2:, last year on this forum.
Having been born, brought up and worked in Castle Vale area I am 500% sure that if the engines had been recovered it would have been reported by every tom, dick and harry in the local press, national press and of course aeronautical publications such as Flypast.
If the RAF can confirm that they indeed received tons of merlin engines and spares, can they make a press release to that effect?, or maybe the person who makes this claim to back up his statement so we don’t all assume he is merely talking out of his backside whilst typing one handed in the handstand position.
My family still live in the area and having just spoken to my cousin who is both ex RAF and still lives on the estate, he has no knowledge of any engines being recovered and he works for the housing trust who owns the land!.
Smells of another load of bulls**t

HI
The link works fine, its a real shame that the MOD never learns, every time they do this to veterans they end up with bad press and then they have to backtrack leaving a bad taste in everybody’s mouth’s.
What do we have do with these jumped up A*******s for them to remember how to go about things right in the first place, it seems they need leading by the hand, after all there are quite a number of ex high ranking service personnel working there so surely they would know!
Or am I assuming too much and its always down to money.

Hi firebex,
Good to hear your fit and well now.. have you tried Malcolm Goosey, have heard he does replica spitfire parts also Rocketeer makes replica instruments.
I did see not so long ago someone selling replica U/C indicators on Evil Bay.
My friend in the Midlands may have some spitfire items you require, PM me for his details however I don’t know what he will have spare exactly, have attached some pics of the replica spitfire labels he has.

Hi
PM sent
Many thanks
JASON
Thank you again gentlemen for all the information.
One of these days I am going to be able to stop the dvd at the right time to see the actual serial number of the Spitfire used, it does not look like K5054 in the film.
Mark12 does J.Quill mention this serial number in his log book?
Whilst watching the film again when it shows the workers putting the aircraft together it looks like the later type internal windscreen being fitted yet whilst its being wheeled out its fitted with the earlier type. Am I becoming a rivet counter?:highly_amused:

Hi Steve “P”
This is fantastic and just what so many people have been waiting for..:eagerness:
Always thought that the Seafire firewalls were exactly like the Spitfire Mk V unless it was for the later Griffon mark which I believe was angled at the top, or is this just like the MkXII firewall?
