HI
Thanks ZRX61, enjoyed the link.
On the Frost Automotive website, found “Ali clean ” which not only cleans and removes heavy oxidisation but also etch primes afterwards all in one treatment according to the write up.
One Ltr bottle is only £10.21 plus vat is very reasonable.
I have in the past used cheap washing up liquid and washing powder mixed in together myself when the swarfega has run out.
However this subject is not just about cleaning of parts etc, how about some then and now photo’s of original items that have been restored and how you achieved the end result.

Jason
Hello All,
Just like to thank all those who have shared their secrets, seems that there is quite a lot out there which can be used on steel parts to both remove/ stabilise corrosion but people are still stuck on a decent corrosion treatment for aluminium.
I have noticed Deoxidine 624 on the light aero website but at £23.40 plus vat for one ltr is a little expensive, so can anyone suggest anything cheaper?
If somebody put together an extensive ‘cookbook’ or Flypast put out a detailed series of articles, that would help a lot of people.
Hi Nicko
I think that would be a fantastic idea, could I ask if anybody recommends any product think it maybe a good idea to also mention where the product can be obtained from.

Occasionally help out with a project and the rebuilder is seeking a Vickers A980 Oil pot to complete the firewall section of the project,
have attached a picture of what one looks like and was used on many Vickers aircraft including I believe Vickers built military vehicles.
Hoping someone will have one spare.

I did read not so long ago that spitfire Mk 1a AR213 was sold for just below £3m which is far more original than P9374
First of all I am hoping that P9374 will stay in the UK, the sale of this aircraft is no doubt financing the completion of N3200 as well as going towards the rebuild of P9373.
Can you imagine the scene at Duxford, all 3 of them lined up together? 😎
Hello Phil,
There is a book on the 474th fighter group by Isham G. Keller, titled ” an Enlisted mans observations”.
First published in 1988 so you might be able to source one via the many second hand book search suppliers, you could also try and contact the Dorset County museum who I believe hold records and photographs of Warmwell Airfield and some of the aircraft stationed there between 1937 and 1946.
According to the book there is a 474th comrades association so you may also want to try researching to see if that is still current.
Hope the above is useful.
Jason
I once saw the very same photograph in a book but it stated it was taken at Duxford.
Some more behind the scenes for you

Another view of the dressed up wing “damage”
Alan,
Thank you so much for your help again, would not worry about the 7G parts, the box measures 1″x1/2″ square and would only kill anybody if they tried to swallow it !
My problem is that I cannot see the attached pictures in some of the threads despite clicking on the small paperclip until my finger hurts?
can anybody tell what I am doing wrong?
