The “chunky” ones as you call them are over sized bare castings and you will need to mill them down to size/shape.
I knew my mate who had some original spitfire ones about 6 months ago surplus to his requirements but not sure if he still has them.

Under the Theft act its down as “Theft by finding” low level crime however still is an arrestable offence plus you could be charged with trespass on top, so when you approach the landowner it may be best not mentioning what you did or found in the first instance.

Where are the ground running ones? are they in the UK?

Original spade grip as fitted to cannon armed Spitfires and Seafires surplus to requirements. This one is ex stores and has never been fitted to any aircraft, is complete with the fixing bolts and stores label. Very rare and hard to find examples in this condition so if interested PM me for the sellers details, the camera push button and mounting plate is not available yet.
