The mystery deepens, is the form 700 wrong ie did the engineer who wrote it out put merlin 45 instead of merlin 55 thinking as a MkV is should have that mark of Engine OR did the engineer mix up the form 700 between AB910 &
    AR501 and put merlin 45 in AB’s form 700 instead of AR’s form 700?

Or am I just digging a hole for myself 😀

Is it true that the fuselage of RX168 was the subject of a crown court case?

I believe that AB910 retained its Merlin 55M (originally installed at Eastleigh in May 1950).

To the best of my knowledge AR501 was transferred by road to Henlow on 29/11/67 and restored to fly by Simpsons Aero Services (G-AWII) on the power of its Merlin 45M which had been installed by Air Service Training Ltd between 22/9/44 and 23/11/44.

(It’s all in the book …)

    Hi
I was under the same impression until the weekend when I was shown the Form 700E which was used for G-AISU AB910 dated 18-5-68 during the making of the film. In section 2 it states the engine as Merlin 45, interesting enough in section 6 on the 5th July 1968 at 1710 hrs the pilot reports port brake indicates but does not hold followed by the port wing tip and pitot head damaged at same time.

Trim guage is just a boost guage housing with a doohicky at the back for the bowden cable..Do have drawings for the internal mechanism if you want to go that far..Ps Tony have a new email addy.. 😉

    Hi Ross,

Am afraid your wrong there mate, the trim gauge housing is an actual Supermarine 30034 part number and is slightly longer in body than the boost guage housing and its only todays cheap replicas that use redundant boost cases as its only for cosmetic use.
Hope the drawing for the oil/water seperater was ok.

The seafire fuselage was sold to HFL a few years back by both owners.

Andy Saunders should be recognised in the New Years honours list M.B.E at least. I also gave to the ATC Cadets on duty in Bedford yesterday and got my sticker. I wonder how many of the general public knew it was Battle of Britain Day ?

I full heartedly aggree as the letters “MBE” actually stand for “my bloody efforts” yet so many people who do nothing get a “OBE” awarded..but as we all know those letters stand for “other buggars efforts”:D

In my mind Andy should get a bl**dy knighthood

Personnly I think its time now that the Goverment gave their full backing to Andy Saunders and others who spend thier own hard earned cash and time to do the job that the goverment should be doing, bringing peace of mind to those families who lost their loved ones who paid the price for our freedom which sometimes is abused today by some.
As a ex serviceman who’s father, uncles and other family relatives fought in both world wars I will always be indebted to those who paid the ultimate price.
I know Andy and others have even put thier own freedom at risk in the past to carry out those digs where the aircrew have no known graves at the families/groundowners request yet the goverment ignore these requests on the basis it will mean they cannot afford another office refurbishment at some unknown backstreet office.

To you Andy I say thank you.

    Rant over 😀

I recall speaking to 2 ex 152 sqdn BoB pilots many years ago who had nothing but praise for their ground crews, especaily those who looked after Pilot officer Pooch whilst they were flying.

    Hello Gentlemen,

Thank you all who have assisted with my question whilst I have been away, so much help, information and from Peter Catchpole some inspiration, how did you know the idea I had in mind?
I had the idea of using a few of my friends .303 aircraft browning machine gun mountings from a spitfire that he has not has use for at present to build up a small presentation whilst at the same time building up my engineering skills.
Did not realise how rare they were when I asked the question however now I have learned so much about these weapons and got a few interesting leads, btw TonyT was not seeking a Lee Enfield but my step son is now so thank you to all who passed that info on to us.

I know this is an old thread, but parts from this Mosquito have appeared on ebay recently, offered by a seller in Buckinghamshire.
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ww2-aircraft-crash-relic-mosquito-b-xvI-mm150-/110932528673?pt=UK_Collectables_Militaria_LE&hash=item19d4180e21

Is there not something which stops people from selling crashed aircraft items on ebay?

This sticks in my throat when its known that people have died giving thier lives for our freedom and not to make money out of them
