We have something similar but nothing is said just a bit of sneaking about and BUMP:diablo:
As for civil liberties ,apparently your all ready caught on camera one hundred times a day ,your movements and habits are tracked through your credit or debit card usage, your monitored through your phone calls, mobiles can be tracked so they know where you are when out, funnily enough ,you even leave foot prints on the eather web, civil liberties, depends how you look at it, if all this hopefully stops the odd nutter killing innocent folk, tracking of pedos the systematic hunting down of organized crime,im in and if they fetch in id cards with dna,so, i have nothing to hide……..
It might interest you to know, that fortunately there are still places without CCTV. I visited a lovely village called Wantage, which is in Oxfordshire, and didn’t see one camera in the village centre. It really felt great, knowing that I wasn’t being watched by someone in a security control room, I felt like a free man. It just proves my point, that we are mugs , accepting all these snooping cameras into our daily lives.
If you want to live in a country, where your personal information is given to any old ” Tom Dick and Harry ” that’s fine by me.
Doesn’t anyone have a right to personal privacy any more, what a sad state of affairs we now find ourselves in.
Gone are the good old days, when we were a free country, and a free people.

Agreed, we need to have other power sources….but there is trouble there from the environmentalists. They all have their areas of concern.
They want to un-dam northwest rivers to help Salmon. The areas main power source for years has been hydro-electric dams.
You can’t build nuclear power plants…never mind France and Japan (and the USN) have safely used them for decades…it’s a non-starter here.Even wind farms are getting bad press…worries about birds flying into them
And off the coast of ever so liberal Boston…residents voted it down because it would spoil the view.BTW: Dyess AFB in Texas gets 100% of its electricity from a nearby wind farm.
I was surprised to hear on the radio today, that the UK is going to have a coal power station, which will be fitted with a CO2 capturing device. So it seems that coal power stations, are still being considered for generating electricity. Nuclear power stations seem to be the way forward, from an efficiency point of view. The UK gets 20% of it’s electricity from this source at present.
I don’t think wind farms, are the answer to our energy needs. They present an ugly appearence on the landscape, and will need high pylons, for the cables that carry the electricity. Apparently these pylons will need to be higher, than the ones we have at present.
Although I don’t think, that global warming can be stopped, the environment will certainly benefit from cleaner air, as a result from using alternative fuel sources.
The days of cylinder shaped planes with wings are numbered, the flying saucer disc shape is much more aerodynamically efficient. With a suitable new revolutionary propulsion system, such as anti gravity drive, CO2 emmisions from planes, will be a thing of the past.

Britain is an amazing country, suddenly the government have decided, that all primary school children, must learn a foreign language. Does this mean, the standard of education for our kids is improving at last.
Some kids are leaving school, who haven’t mastered the three R’s, is anything being done about this.

This might belong in the commercial aviation forum, but given its scope I felt it was more appropriate in here:
The UK opposition party have suggested giving individuals an “allowance” of 1 return short haul flight a year. Those taking more flights than this will face higher taxes. The article I read (the Telegraph) was sketchy on how this would work.
Also proposed is the application of VAT to airline fuel, for domestic flights only, together with the abolition of air passenger duty.
Thoughts….?

In my younger days back in the 60’s, very few people went abroad for their holidays. The seaside was the place to go, and you travelled by coach or train.
If you do want to go abroad, take the train, it’s much more environmentally friendly. However should you still want to travel by plane, be prepared to pay your green tax. I am sure there are plenty who will, and wont be put off by a little extra expense.
Reduced use of plane travel, will help to curb airport expansion, and protect the environment and people, from harmful air pollution.

Just why are the Yanks importing bread from Germany in the first place! Haven’t they heard of Hovis???????? Delivered by a little lad who is willing to pedal/push his bike up a huge cobbled hill, just to fullfill a satisfactory home delivery.Priceless 😀
I reckon they should put those C5 galaxies to good use, and import some American bread. Unless of course they prefer German bread, in which case they could still fly it in. 😉

Come on guys, everyone knows Global warming is a result of CO2 emissions. Don’t let some new dodgy theory, contrary to popular opinion make you think otherwise. Our governments know only to well, the damage us humans are doing to the planet, hence the reason for taxing us on CO2 emissions. I think China should be allowed to pump loads of CO2 into the atmosphere, because it’s a developing country. After all, we have done our fair share of CO2 dumping in the past, as a result of our technological development.

Supposing they had been Terrorists, with a suitcase A Bomb?
Our borders are insecure, we are heading for trouble. Come to think of it, something like this happened a few years ago, so how could it happen again?
