Thanks to “Thunderbird 167″aka Dave and Tropic Thunder for helpful info on ken wards collection.:)
Dont know if it was one of my pics you saw the other day Beefyboy but have added two more of the same J.P I caught at the last Waddo show, its just good hear that someone likes the photos and they mean something. One bloke who could really fly a J.P for me and left a lasting memory was a Flt/Lt Jarvis who I first saw in 1965 doing stall turns very low and bringing his J.P inverted what seemed like only a few feet from the top of the hangars.
So I can understand how the photos bring back memories and I bet youve got loads if you were travelling around with the “Poachers”(circus)Team.:)
:):) .Arabest.
Poachers(Beefyboy)
As you can see I’m on another day off, perils of a job delivering new trucks with no sales at the moment.Anyway I’ll put the violin away and look forward to seeing the photos youve got.
Thanks for the the info about Poachers last display and some of the things you did to attend the various displays.Did you get the chance to fly to some of the events,?like the Reds do with some of the groundcrew.I’ll look through some photos I’ve collected over the years from the big organisations to see if I’ve got any poachers images. At least during my time when I collected the photos I was cute enough to ask if I could publish them how I want and they all said the same thing as long as I mention them as the source for credit.:);)
Cranwell
Hi again beefyboy and thanks for putting up your photos.I was only able to include this lineup at Cranwell of a mix of J.Ps and Tucanos kindly supplied by support command in a press pack.
Sadly some of my better slides and prints disappeared in an abysmal attempt of an article I forwarded in a nicely packaged brown envelope to some magazine that was not a “Model”of good ethics but was a master of Tommy Cooper magic in creating small areas of the Bermuda Triangle in certain offices,”just like that”.Ha,ha.:):).
Lesson being dont ever send in any good material as you have a two to one chance of ever seeing it again. As you will know just looking at the brilliant photos of yours from the past they would make a good study for the ,Elfs and Safety” merchants of today. It also made me laugh to see who I think is the chap behind you look as if he’s making a call on his mobile. Thanks again for sending photos.
Re 25th April
Thanks “Easy Tiger” for that info and with what youve just posted was enough for me to decide to make a trip, donate to a good cause and pray the weather will be nice at the time.
So look forward to any snippets of news you might share about the event and thanks again.:)
Hazy days
Thanks again George for a quick glimpse into the unseen efforts of life behind the the lineups as a “Cranwell Liney”.It puts into context the need for pre flight walk arounds after the life size jigsaw puzzle is pulled apart from the cramped plane parks inside the hangars amidst smoke and some blue humour.
I’ve just been reading a book called “Jet Provost”,The Little plane with the Big history, written by ,”Bob Clarke” someone who worked in the same job as yours at 3 FTS Leeming in the 80s and here is the ISBN.No if you want to get the book.ISBN 978 1 84868 097 5.Anyway it really gives a good insight into the world of yours and many other lineys who work to get the planes out.So I’m sure the word “Lineys” will become a more frequently used term in the plane spotters small dictionary such as my own,so its not before time you blokes are going to get some exposure in a world of aviation dominated by aircrews.
Looks like the people at North Weald will be putting some J.Ps out on the weekend of the 25/4/ where there will be a bit of a get together of WW2 aircraft and some of the people that took part in the biggest event of the last century,to my mind anyway.
Sadly I missed the hot Summer of 76 in England as I was trying to emulate the life of “Jack Kerowack”or “Che Gevara”with a beat up old triumph tiger travelling around europe doing dish washing in some of europes finest hotels(cheap board and lodgings).Good that you had those type of chaps who had served in Burma and could relate to your work in the extreme heat otherwise it could have been a lot worse. Thanks for taking the time anyway to give us an insight into your past working life and look forward to anything else interesting you may recall from the 70s.:):)
Just Photos
Couple more photos before the thread disappears like the aircraft:rolleyes:,and all were taken of 1 FTS aircraft except the last CFS J.P taken at Elvington a few years ago.
Most of my photos were taken on slides and the CFS one was taken with a three megapixel compact and the result just blew me away with the sharpness and good colour rendition the new digital image could offer. Years ago on threads like these I used to wonder at some of the brilliantly sharp and colourful images that were put up on the threads.Questions as to how the photographer got such sharp clarity were often met with silence but no secrecy can be withheld where an exchange with money and the need to keep up with the times.
Professionals may have other views on the digital world but with no film to purchase or developing costs it has been a boon to me as a keen amateur whose aim is to use equipment as a means to an end just to make that picture.”Vive La Digital revolution”.:):)

Nice shots Anna.Like the A380, and the last Frecce shot..;)
Cheers Deano,…I would have made the image larger but I forgot the max.,image size..
Glad you liked the shots. That last word is one where you don’t want to use the wrong vowel..ha.ha:confused::)
Glad you got things sorted out in the end scotty.
Those lumps of metal are pretty strong stuff and could do more
