    Hello Julie,
Your post grabbed my emotions this morning and sorry to hear about your dad who sounded like quite a charachter.Any way I was saving this B/W photo which came my way courtesy of the Air historical Branch,RAF some years ago.(I had dreams of putting a book together) it makes me laugh now.

The plane which pictured at the top of the photo could well have been one your father may have flown and it may not be unlikely be he could be at the controls of that very aircraft as it comes from his period of test flying .I hope you are able to find out more about his flying career so good luck.:) http://i522.photobucket.com/albums/w350/lukeatme-photos/img107_1.jpg

    Mildenhall Show

Hello Joey….Good to hear someone has replied to my question which was aimed at the Mildenhall show. The risk to the public these days would first of all be scaled down from threats due to the present global situation which might occur on the base.I have to be very carefull in what words I use when I say this as if a certain few words appear in any mails containing these nouns or adjectives I myself would get a visit to the house from local security.Next if an accident were to happen on base such as an aircraft were to fall from the sky would we accept liability beforehand and with this knowledge then make a thoughtful descision as to go in and attend the show or stay away.

These days in an ever letigious society and one full of risk from one thing or another because of the P.C brigade or”not” we must make clear our intentions and if this sort of protocol was in place at the show beforehand some of the responsibility would be taken from the organisers and then hopefully widening the goal posts for the show to restart.

Sometimes when I was fortunate enough in the past to have secured a press pass we signed a similar form I was just mentioning and I made other people close to me aware of what I was doing ,so if something had gone badly wrong at the time they were at least aware of my situation.Hope this is clear to you and I wasnt refering to any other show but the Mildenhall one.Having said that it could be used at all other events of a similar type.:)

It was good to learn about past events and your knowledge of past events especially, although it did make me think about trying to find out more about what people say and try and research a little before answering as it does cause people to reach a conclusion thinking at crossed purposes.

I am really a follower of trends and patterns on these forums as I had set out to ask if people would go to this show knowing of the risks it could involve.I would still like to know if people would still attend the event or not under todays current situation and the risk it might run.

Maybe if people who do consider to run a show or not were to check the pulse of the spotter and aviation enthusiast through forums such as this one and the like of them were too see a total lack of interest around concerning any future shows, the conclusion would be inevitable to them.;):)

    Joey over there.

I thought the Frecce had their crash at ramstein and was unaware of any incident at Mildenhall.Just read Moggys answer so now youll know for certain where it happened.
Good luck with life over there.:)

    Hi JoeyR,
Short answer is yes to some of what you said but certainly not due to lack of interest. As you must remember from your times it was a pretty friendly affair as you wandered away from the aircraft and were drawn in by the smell of the burgers at some of the stands.

It was a good place to exchange chit chat with most of the base staff only too pleased to help us anoraks.Main reasons bringing the show to a halt after the 2001 show were public safety, off set costs to fund present situation, parking problems and most importantly the lack of experienced show organisers, from logistics staff to commentators.”Do you remember the commentator who was talking when the Turkish Stars attended the show”..

A small event in 2005 was put together and cancelled as quick as it had been thought about.Have you fled these shores for a better way of life Joey and how do you find the locals?.

    Who’s photo is it.

I like the photo of Eddie Todds J.P doing its low level take off run out and would be proud if I had one similar. It has amazed me that 3 different people have taken this photograph and all must have been standing in a small group next to each other and the result is a similar photo.I do understand this is possible on a longer distance with more frequency of the chance of it happening as due to the further distance making the difference of three photos of the same subject seem similar in position.

If this isnt the same photo by one person its the first time I’ve seen this sort of occurance.Given the amount of popularity this hobby now enjoys it may be something we might see a lot more of and will have to look out for more of this in the future as it could cause all of us a lot of problems when we come to claim copyright on an image.Perhaps its a new phenomina we must come to accept due to the popularity of digital photography and the increase in spotters as per the increase in population itself.I think we all think the same about the volume of cars on the road causing the frequency of jams, breakdowns and accidents to happen more often.

I wonder if anyone has fallen asleep reading this.:):) never the less its a thought for the future.

Couple of shots with the shack flying at Church Fenton and the static was at Lossiemouth 91,prior to a short trip brought to an end with a fuel leak.:) http://i522.photobucket.com/albums/w350/lukeatme-photos/CNV00030-1.jpghttp://i522.photobucket.com/albums/w350/lukeatme-photos/img094.jpg ;):)

A few more for the thread of varying quality. The 6 FTS static was taken at Marham in 91 with a mirror lens on neg film and I was pleased with the result as the distance was a couple of hundred yards. The rest are also colour film and are scanned from prints and negs.:);) http://i522.photobucket.com/albums/w350/lukeatme-photos/img098.jpghttp://i522.photobucket.com/albums/w350/lukeatme-photos/CNV00009_1.jpghttp://i522.photobucket.com/albums/w350/lukeatme-photos/img101.jpghttp://i522.photobucket.com/albums/w350/lukeatme-photos/000072_2.jpg :)

Thankyou for sharing those brilliant photos. It reminded me of my times as a youngster after visiting RAF Acklington on the B.o.B days during the 60s.Somehow the whole atmosphere then was charged with the smells of the aircraft interiors and wonderment as to where all these planes had come from. But once a lightning had appeared or a hunter went into a zoom climb it was forget the world time and smell that fuel as you looked through the haze and dreamt away.Ha,Ha.:)

Hope these might be of some use and the one on the wooden beams was taken at Elvington a few years ago.The other photo was taken in the car park of the Petwood hotel made famous as it was used by 617 Sqn.,while they were using RAF Woodhall Spa.
It was described on a small plaque as being one of the only remaining prototypes of the Barnes Wallis bouncing bomb.:) http://i522.photobucket.com/albums/w350/lukeatme-photos/IMG_2206.jpghttp://i522.photobucket.com/albums/w350/lukeatme-photos/IMG_0425.jpg
