Thanks Scotty
It was good to read your post and have your support about my stand on this subject. At best youve at least seen what goes on down there scotty after having done a job there as you say.
Since an earlier part of this year Duxford came under the spotlight on another web forum and of course like a load of sheep in slumber once the word “Duxford”is mentioned they are all back on their feet and waiting for direction. My mother who was Scottish by the way used to say when i was being silly and irratating,”Away and play on the motorway”and wish she could tell this p.c lot with zelos where to go.:)
Anyway your point about the images was taken on board and many thanks for that.I have viewed both your sites and see you travel near and far to get your images and they are of a high standard, colourful and well constructed.By looking at them you must have had an idea what you were wanting to see in your frame before you got to the location/site.Many people who take photographs dont have this as an agenda before they set out but you will know the opposite of this as a must.
I wonder how many have followed in other peoples footsteps though who have paved the way to a good image, one springs to mind with all those jet airliners just feet away from a very small fence landing in some exotic location.Do you see them ranting on about this to the authorities over there saying you mustnt do that or theyll close the airport down,”No”. Thanks for telling me about Leuchars show and i look forward to viewing more of your work.
Just a last word though I wonder how much these people would think about their own safety if they were given passes to stand at the red and white vans at the piano keys or around and near them like we so often see sometimes, they still come close dont they.Would they refuse the back seat ride with the Red Arrows because they fly feet apart. If they really rant on too much theyll create a situation like they have in West Germany before anything happens.
Good catch
nicely caught thanks for sharing.
Lovely Shots
Really nice set of shots there, good luck in the future. The J.P shot and Hurricane ones are my particular favourites.
Thankyou
Thanks Darren,
For you support and because of this I,m going to give you a clue to what the answer might be ,I wonder if theyll be able to guess. As they say a picture paints a thousand words.
Cheers.
look at them folk on the hill.:dev2:
Morale Question
A good reply, but I,m not staggering around thinking about my reply.Hand on heart can you honestly tell me that you havent taken a photograph from over a fence, road or bush at an airshow without paying.
Give me your honest answer about this and I might think if its the truth or not like you think I,m not a fare paying showgoer.;)
Minding your own business
First I,m not even going to bother going there with your questioning and secondly what right do you think you have in asking me in how I spend my time and money at airshows.
Just because this is the age of the internet it still doesnt give anyone cart blanche into how people go about their lives. If your so firm about your commitment to this cause about who pays and who doesnt I suggest if you feel so strongly to get yourself down to Waddington on the airshow weekend and go along the perry fence and start asking people if they paid or didnt pay to do what they are doing at the time.Dont think youd get very far “do you”.
But of course its not the same as Duxford? or is it,or am I missing the point of your question and most of all why does it all seem to focus on that particular venue/site and not Fairford,Farnboro,Biggin Hill,Yeovil, come to think anywhere there might be a show.
Some images were up for people to look at and make critiscism about and in my book as an amateur photographer of all things aviation thats what I want them to focus on and not what I do in my affairs with money or time.
Thanks for positive comments and first answer to photo location at Duxford was over in the farmers field on the other side of the M11 and I use most of the field as to what type of shot I,m after. If there is a crop there I do respect the area and just use the front part.
J.P your illustrations were really well thought out and the detail is good, it must be quite a painful process, were they air brushed?.Good site though. Thanks again for looking.
Point taken
Hello Dennis and its probably been a bit of both as you mentioned. Its a bit of a gamble and depending on what mood the individual is in during the interpretaion process of reading the posts.
Anyway I did decipher the text in the way you mentioned in your last answer.Like I said before we most of all have an area of interest in the hobby of aviation we focus in that its a bit too difficult too have a massive amount of general knowledge info in store on the subject.!!!!
To protect myself from a lack of knowledge and ignorance on the subject I say my interest lies on the photographic front and any new knowledge gained in the process of time is a bonus.I hope this explains my last answer and where Im coming from Denis.
Either way this speculation about a secret project about a four engined based English bomber is fascinating to say the least. The clue to work around must lie in the “English based” bit.Cheers.JB.
XB 38
A Merlin engined B-17 eh?….methinks pure speculation at the least!
Hello Denis,
Was surprised to see this answer come through on the thread and it seems to answer both our thoughts on this being a feasible project.
One thing about this hobby is you never stop learning. Thanks for the the info yak11 on the models and sorry your friend who made those lovely aircraft isnt around.By any chance were they made from the roots of a tree the type they make rifle butts from?.
I enjoy the goings on at Hardwick and have put a few photos up on militaryairshows message board.I hope they dont put some of that blue rope at the entrance gate.;)Bravo Tango type I see…Cheers.
Thanks for your reply Huw and liked some of your photos on the jet photos site.Cheers.
Hello Denis,
Not being a technocrat on the engine powerplant front ,can you give some detail as to why my hypothetical question would not be feasible.
If possible could you highlight this answer in the “Idiots Guide” type of reply as my main interest in aviation is photography. Thanks in advance to your reply and in reflection to your answer sometimes we must try to take our hobby with a pinch of fun when conjecture is about.:diablo:
Re secret goings on
Hello,
Pure speculation but could a B17 run on the engines your all talking about.Once on a visit to the hangar at Hardwick I caught sight of a small table depicting most of Mr Hammonds collection in model format.
Only one didnt fit the bill at the time but could this photo be another hypothetical guess or is the whole thing not feasible.Maybe the Merlin talk is just a roose.Sometimes speculation is the mother of truth somewhere out there.:cool:
A.Net enquiry(Reply)
Hi Arthur,
Thanks for a good honest answer in your return post.It definitely seems seems to be a doubled edged sword and one that you so rightly pointed out is a voluntary kind of smile or frown experience.
I suppose its all down to the content of the image and if choosing the path to supply the site is to have a good look round and see whats what with the image and its content.
Its all good fun anyway and it appears to me to be a bit like a competition and if you manage to get accepted the wow factor suddenly comes into it.In all though it must serve to improve your own skills and change a few habits of a lifetime to move with the times and see whats hot and not.
I probably like many others keep taking the same side or three quarter front or back shots that are a bit tiresome too often.
So now maybe I,ll try and see that little bit differently to try and come up with something thats ,(new Saying) “outside the box”.Thanks again for replying.::)
A.net info
Hi Dan,
The info was spot on and just about 10% sales from your efforts was well worth your input.”Well done” and after looking at some of your images on the A.Net site I can see why you achieved the result.
Good colourful well composed shots with some nice angles, it all in all inspired me to try my hand at sending in some photos to A.net and shall keep you posted as to how my first attempts went .Also I will lookout for a nice wide angle lense for those nice close ups similar to the monarch airlines shot coming in to land at Lanzarote. Thanks again.
Airliners.net?
I know airliners.net is a good place to showcase your work and my question relates to this site.I read that on Authur Pewteys reply that he had 1500 images on the site and wondered how many hits for image sales he has had since putting this amount on the site.
I just want to know if its all worth doing the same thing and some kind of ratio of image sales to images supplied and time it took to get things moving.I know some sites are based on vanity views only and some kind of pattern of how the A.net site works would be helpful.
Thanks in advance for any up and coming replies,I just want to save myself any hasstle if the site is a slow mover, as the photographic streets are quite busy and if its one of the only ways to get stuff out I,ll just have to hustle along with the rest.
