Today I read that MBDA sold the 1.000th Mica.
1,000 th MICA for French order.
Another 1000 ~ 2000 MICAs have been already sold to other foreign countries……..
Interesting….. it seems that UK still has to buy a few F-35B…..

Defense giant Lockheed Martin Corp. has received a contract worth $3.48 billion to manufacture 31 F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft for the U.S. and U.K. militaries, the Pentagon announced Nov. 19.
The contract for the Lot IV aircraft will cover the production and delivery of 16 short take-off, vertical-landing (STOVL) F-35B Lightning aircraft for the Marine Corps, four F-35C carrier variants for the Navy, 10 F-35A conventional landing jets for the Air Force and one STOVL aircraft for the British Royal Navy, according to the announcement.
25% larger than F-16 means something with EF-2000’s size.
F-22’s stealth means you have to put at least eight missiles inside the body of EF-2000’s size, while keeping enough internal fuel for the reasonable combat radius/range and the 3 Mach flying at the same time.
Mach 3 means a lot of Titanium (which is equal to a lot of money) for the fighter’s structure and a lot of internal fuel load, which should be even more than the internal fuel load of F-22 today, for such powerful engines (and you have to put such large amount of fuel load into the fighter with EF-2000’s size, plus at least eight internal missiles…..).
Personally, I don’t think you can put all these requirements in a medium-sized fighter without the cost that is several times higher than the F-22A today….
The president still has the right to veto any attempt of reviving F-22 from the Congress.
The GOP won’t be able to revive the project of F-22 until:
1. It gets back The President of USA in the next election.
or
2. It changes the mind of Obama successfully.
Gripen NG, Rafale F3-O4T/F4/F5, and now, Eurofighter Typhoon 2020😀

Unless directly confirmed by the relevant parties or using named sources, any such news should ALWAYS be taken with a pinch of salt. Fiction is fiction. But anyone who reads it should know how easy it is to plant a story in papers – for parties with resources, and there are plenty of them in this case.
ps. If this telegraph news item is false??? i dont think anyone expects to go through the BBC-like iraq dossier grilling.
AH, another European-style Trilogy of military exportation…….
“Our product has been proved to be the best of best !!:eek:”
“Our chance to win the competition has become higher and higher !!!:D”
“We lose the game because of nothing wrong with our product, but the God damn American political pressure !!!!:mad:”
He also said U.K. defense officials also decided that since key allies like France were slated to buy the carrier variant, following suit would make sense to foster interoperability…..
I think that U.K. defense officials mean since that French Navy’s carrier and fighters (Rafale) have already been CTOL configuration, it would be better for RN’s CVF and JSF to be CTOL configuration too in order to foster interoperability with French Navy.
A Raptor which under US law isn’t available for export!
Who cares?? Dr Carlo Kopp only tells you (in almost every his articles) that F-22A is the only western fighter which is deserved to buy right now. So, it is not his fault if your country has no way to buy it ~ It is your fault that why you are not born to be an American 😀
Basically, these two guys believe that except F-22A, all other western fighters in the world now are nothing more than trash comparing with the almighty new russian fighters such as Su-30MKI series, Su-35, and PAK-FA……:D
EF-2000 ?? Nothing better than an upgrading F-15 according to Dr Carlo Kopp’s opinion.
http://www.ausairpower.net/Analysis-Typhoon.html
F-35, F/A-18E/F, and any western fighter other than F-22A today ?? Junk, Trash, and Garbage comparing with the formidable and almighty NG russian fighters.
And in the end of almost all their articles, the conclusion must be: RAF, RAAF, CAF…..and (perhaps) every NATO’s airforce should say good-bye to their own junk, trash, and garbage fighters right now and buy Raptor…..:diablo:
i dont think power is the problem, compactness and cooling solution is a bigger factor.
With the same generation and class of technology, the bigger fighter often has:
1. More fuel for the more powerful electrical generator and cooling system to generate more power and better cooling function.
2. More space and loading to equip the bigger, heavier, and more powerful electrical generators and cooling systems.
No matter how compact the NG electrical and cooling systems can be, the bigger fighter with the same generation of electrical and cooling systems often has more space and fuel to do the thing better.
1,500 should be the number of T/R modules for APG-77 in 1990s.
As the new GaAs T/R modules today have become much more lighter and smaller, I think it is completely possible that the APG-77 will be able to have much more than 1,500 T/R modules (> 2,000 I think) if it adopts the new GaAs T/R modules today.
In the end, I think the difference of detective and tracking range among APG-77, CAPTOR AESA, and Raven still mainly depends on the difference of electrical power of their own fighters (F-22A, EF-2000, and Gripen NG) ~ The GaAs T/R modules can’t generate electricity and power on their own, and the larger fighter often has more space and capacity to equip the bigger and more powerful electrical generators.
If your electrical generators are not powerful enough, then your AESA radar’s detective and tracking range won’t be longer even being equipped with many thousands of GaAs T/R modules……
The only real highlight in that magazine is that the internal fuel of the Typhoon is finally disclosed on an official public document. Five tons.
Personally, I think the most interesting part in this magazine should be the Mr. CRAIG PENRICE’s explanation of the advantage of swashplate techonology for Typhoon’s future AESA radar (Page 15):
“The WFoR Repositioner AESA equipped Typhoon pilot will be able to increase his separation from a threatening missile at almost twice the rate of his fixed plate AESA equipped opposition.”
“This wide field of view has significant benefits in both air-to-air and air-to-surface engagements allowing Typhoon to turn away from, but still engage, target aircraft and carry out high resolution SAR modes whilst maintaining a safe distance from enemy forces.”
And as for the Air Combat Effectiveness Chart according to DRA’s study in page 11:
(Air Combat Effectiveness results are scenario dependant. Data shown versus non-VLO threat fighters)
* EF-2000 + AIM-120 + CAPTOR-M + EJ-200: 75% (or 3 : 1 of exchange ratio).
* EF-2000 + Meteor + CAPTOR-M + EJ-200: 85% (or 5 to 6 : 1 of exchange ratio).
* EF-2000 + Meteor + CAPTOR AESA + EJ-230: 91% (or 10 : 1 of exchange ratio).
* F-22 Air Combat Effectiveness Band: 85% to 98% (up to 49 : 1 of exchange ratio).
I’m worried they will steal F-35 tech and build there own.
A: The main problem that France won’t be able to build a French 5th generation stealthy fighter in the foreseeable future (or even foreever) is from the finance ~ It is just simplely impossible for France to spend several tenth of billions of Euros to build its own new generation fighter in the foreseeable future, and stealing F-35’s tech won’t help to solve this problem.
Now how to you protect the tech if the aircraft is on a French ship?
A: If Frenchmen don’t worry about something like this when operating their own Rafale on the super carriers and the airbases of USN, then why should American worry about this when RAF and RN just do the same thing on a French carrier ?? Because the noble American are much more honorable and gentle than the evil Frenchmen ??
In 1982, when Argentina invaded Falkland islands, the UK’s military power on that island was: 57 marines, 11 sailors, and 25 to 40 citizen soldiers. And Argentina amphibious assault force sent 600 troops to conquer that island.
Today, the daily UK’s military power for Falkland islands is:
* Army: 500 soldiers.
* Navy: one destroyer or frigate + one SSN.
* Airforce: four Eurofighters + one AAR tanker.
If Argentina wants to invade Falkland islands once again in the near future, lets see how its amphibious assault force to pass the attack from the Astute SSN with 38 spearfish torpedos and TALM cruise missiles, and then sending thousands of troops to the island at first………
The F100-PW-229 engines’ operating records in Royal Saudi AF had been so good that made RSAF decide to buy F110-GE-129s for its own F-15S to replace the original P&W engines in 2006 ~ The time which was just 11 years after the first F-15S had been handed over to RSAF.
Pratt & Whitney really has the reason for being criticized as “An engine company that has more lawyers than engineers”……..
