The development of Gripen NG has already showed us the most reasonable and possible non-American, manned, and “new” fighter choice(s) for the European countries in the next 25 to 30 years: Gripen NG, Rafale MLU or NG, and Eurofighter MLU or NG.
And if we are lucky enough, we may see the European countries begin to discuss about co-developing a completely new design for replacing Typhoon, Rafale, and Gripen after 2025.
Now is toan happy yet?
My second favorite fighter in the world finally gets a new deal. Happy ? Of course 😉
And I would be more happy if Saudi AF finally decides to buy more Eurofighter:D
Btw
Any news from the Italian defence ministers visit to Kuwait?
Well, the deal shall be signed on 2015/11/15 –> 2015/12/23 –> 2016/01/06 –> 2016/01/31 –> 2016/02/19 –>……..
Well, it’s Saturday now. What has happened to the Typhoon deal for Kuwait ???
IS LRSB a supersonic design or a subsonic one like B-2 ?
They want a new bomber with much better stealth capability than B-2A.
They want a new bomber that is smaller than B-2A with the combat range of 5,000 NM class.
They want a new bomber with the 1/3 to 1/4 unit cost of B-2A, or about 80 billion USDs for 80 to 100 LRS-B bomber.
All the requirements mentioned above strongly indicate a subsonic design.
Ecuador Cuts Helicopter Contract with Indian State Company (excerpt)
(Source: Associated Press; issued Oct 14, 2015)
QUITO, Ecuador — Ecuador says it’s unilaterally ending a contract with India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, which sold seven military helicopters to the South American nation.
At least four of the Dhruv helicopters delivered between 2009 and 2012 have crashed. One was assigned to transport President Rafael Correa, though he wasn’t in the aircraft at the time.
Defense Minister Fernando Cordero announced the action during a news conference Wednesday. He said two of the crashes were caused by mechanical failures. The three remaining Dhruv have been grounded.
Finmeccanica: “Thanks!!! Palazzo Chigi, that’s a really great slapping to our noble customer’s face!!!!”

Excellent!
25% more lift
45% more AoA
100% more roll rate
A new plane… I guess it’s what Scorpion wrote about.
I wonder how low the Typhoon’s roll rate can be before the modification…..
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_JAS_39_Gripen#cite_note-10
As of 2013, more than 247 Gripens have been built, which comprising 204 (30 Batch I, 110 Batch II, 64 Batch III) Gripens delivered to Sweden, 26 to South Africa, and 12 to Thailand. This figure does not include those of the Empire Test Pilots School, or Czech and Hungarian Gripens, with the latter two having received ex-Swedish Air Force aircraft. Five development aircraft were built.
But when did that JAS39A start conversion to a C? I doubt if work began on it in 2007 or 8.
Hungary ordered 14 in 2003, & they were delivered by the end of 2007. New C were being built at the same time, & also at the same time as the Swedish conversions. I expect that the production/conversion line wasn’t running flat out for the latter, but trying to provide steady work.
One question is: How many residual JAS-39A/B are still left ??
In total, Sweden AF procured 125 JAS-39A and 15 JAS-39B.
* 3 JAS-39A were lost due to the air crash accidents between 1993 and 2005.
* 16 airframes of JAS-39A/B were decided to be converted to 14 JAS-39C/D for Hungary AF during 2003.
* 20 2nd batch JAS-39A were upgraded to JAS-39C for Sweden AF before 2007.
* 18 JAS-39A and 13 JAS-39B were upgraded to JAS-39C and JAS-39D for Sweden AF between 2008 and 2015.
* No less than 12 JAS-39A (with or without B) were converted to 12 JAS-39C/D (8C and 4D) for Thailand airforce after 2011.
According to my personal calculation, the Sweden AF shall have no more than 58 JAS-39A in stockpile, and I wonder how many of them are still intact enough that can be directly converted to JAS-39C/D ~ The JAS-39A/B with better condition should already have been chosen by SwAF, HuAF, and ThAF for upgrading to the JAS-39C/D in the past 10+ years……..
how long does it take to re-build an A to C ?
Sweden started the program to upgrade 31 of the air force’s JAS 39A/B fighters to JAS 39C/Ds in October of 2007, and the last JAS-39C of this upgrading plan was handed over to SwAF in March of 2015.
i still think the best way is to lease C until E is available for any new customer

The Sweden air chief: “Sorry, dude, no more JAS-39C/D for leasing. I am more and more reluctant to lease our C/Ds to Brazil, not to mention leasing more C/Ds to Slovakia”
Rafale’s deal today:
1. Domestic order: 180 (and perhaps 45 more after 2020).
2. Exporting order: 84 (plus 12 optional) from the three foreign customers.
3. Total order of Rafale F3-O4T with AESA radar: 144, which has already exceeded Rafale F3 with PESA radar (120).
4. Rafale’s order from 2015 to 2019: 99 (84 foreign order + 15 domestic order).
5. Total order of Rafale now: 264.
6. The possibile order(s) in the near future: another 45 fighters for France, another 24 to 126 fighters for India, another 12 fighters for Qatar, 60 fighters for UAE, 28 fighters for Kuwait, and 12 to 14 fighters for Bahrain.
7. My personal prediction for the range of the final production number of Rafale: 309 ~ 550 (Which is not bad for the final French manned fighter).

lolol. had they stuck by it..they’d already have their first gripens before the restart of this competition.
this time its just Gripen, Rafale, Super hornet.
they don’t love the typhoon
And the majority of Swiss people don’t love anything named “fighter”. Who care ??
Who will win ?? The veto will.
