France: “Keep outlining……No hurry…..The more time you four countries waste for anticipation and painting the bright future, the more Rafales I may export:D “
Just how ridiculous could it get?! Replace Austria’s Typhoons with Gripens??
Why not? Some eastern Europian countries even use MIG-21 to “replace” MIG-29. I think replacing Typhoon with Gripen is much less ridiculous than these.
If you don’t want to pay much money for the national defense, you should seek the cheaper and cheaper equipment. In order to save some money, the Astrian Typhoon has no BVR capability, no EW system, no IRST, and no RAW/MAW ~ It is really ridiculous that Austria bought so expensive castrated fighter with so limited function.
Actually, I think Austria should introduce JF-17, Textron Scorpion, or EMB-312 to replace its Typhoon:D
I found a zoomed in version of that photo and they match up well with the 1424 pic.
Although, the above looks a lot like the “Lite-Brite” PR version of the radar
My personal calculation:
(15*2 + 21*4 + 29*6 + 33*4 + 35*5)*2 = 1,190 TR modules……:apologetic:
Downscaling and closer to Rafale~~~~:p
Let’s hope this CAPTOR-E AESA picture is just a downscaling and simplified prototype…..:D
About the question of the number of T/R module for CAPTOR-E AESA radar…….

(16*2 + 24*4 + 32*4 + 36*6 + 40*6)*2 = 1,424 T/R modules.
another news, according to La Tribune, France and Egypt are close to signing a deal over 2 frigates and between 23 and 26 Rafales (depending on source)
Right, just as France were close to sign a Rafale deal with Morroco in 2007, with Swiss in 2008, with UAE in 2009, with Brazil in 2010, and with India in 2012……..:dev2:
Rafale, the queen of “Close To Sign A Deal”!!:applause:
The snow glows white on the Himalaya tonight
Not a deal to be sign
A kingdom of no exportation and it looks like I’m the queen
The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn’t get deal in, heaven knows I tried
Don’t let deal sink
Don’t let deal flee
Be the omnirole fighter you always have to be
To seal, the deal
Don’t let clients go
Well, now clients go
Let deal go! Let deal go!
Can’t hold it back anymore
Let deal go! Let deal go!
Turn away and slam the door
I don’t care what clients are going to say
Let the storm rage on
No deal never bothered me anyway
It’s funny how some time
Makes no deal seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can’t get to me at all
It’s time to see what I can do
To test client’s patience and break it through
No deal, no client, no rules for me
I’m free!
Let deal go! Let deal go!
I am one with the wind and sky
Let deal go! Let deal go!
You’ll never see me cry
Here I stand and here I’ll stay
Let the storm rage on
My fighting power through the air into the ground
My agility is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
And one thought no exportation like an icy blast
I’m never getting a deal back. The past is in the past
Let deal go! Let deal go!
And I’ll rise like the gust of dawn
Let deal go! Let deal go!
That perfect fighter is gone
Here I dash in the light of day
Let the storm rage on!
No deal never bothered me anyway
The Americans has a saying: the customer is always right.
The customer is always right, unless your product is irreplacable for the customer.
It seems that the new Indian government may just want to find a good excuse to kill the MMRCA, in order to save money for its domestic fighter projects, such as FGFA, MCA, Super-30, and LCA MK2 etc. For India, Rafale is simply not irreplacable.
Ultimatum at the gate ~ Let’s see if French will let the deal go in the last minute once again, again, and again ….:applause:

Southern Korea, Morocco, Swiss, UAE, Brazil……..Next: India ??

NEW DELHI, January 12. /TASS/. India will make a decision on whether or not to purchase French Rafale fighters by April this year, when India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi goes on a visit to France and Germany, the Times of India edition wrote Monday.
According to a source in the country’s Defense Ministry, the sides have been trying to reach an agreement on guarantee maintenance of India-assembled fighters for a year. The French side insists on raising the price of the fighter jets in case maintenance is provided by them. The price of the jets has already risen from the initial $10 billion to over $20 billion, runs the article
One vote for YF-23.
What’s the bet that 2 conformal 1,500L tanks will add as much range as two 2,250L drop tanks even without a centreline 1,000L tank?
2 CFTs with 1,500 L fuel each = 3 1,000 L drop tanks that Typhoon can carry today.
And because of the much less drag compared with the traditional drop tank, the EF-2000 with two 2 CFTs shall have the better combat radius, speed, and acceleration than the EF-2000 with three 1,000 L drop tanks.
Logic dictates theoretically that the aeroplane ‘A’ with two 2,250litre (4,500litre) external drop tanks would have longer range than aeroplane ‘B’ with two 1,500litre (3,000litre) Conformal Fuel Tanks. However, that’s before engine efficiency and aerodynamic efficiency and the like of both aeroplane ‘A’ and ‘B’ enter the equation. It’s no secret that Typhoon has incredible aerodynamic coefficients, pilots talking of having to throttle back-off after take-off before they reach the end of the runway in case they break the imposed speed limit, being extra aware and having gentle throttle response during formation flying and AAR as well as having a longer than originally planned landing distance due to the aeroplane’s sleek aerodynamics. [Tangent].
Big drop tank = Huge drag, and it is said that up to 25% of fuel in the big drop tank is wasted because of its drag, which means that 2,250 L fuel in the big drop tank may just be roughly equal to 1,687.5 L internal fuel.
The modern CFT, on the other hand, has much less drag compared with the traditional drop tank:
http://defense-update.com/products/c/F-16-CFT.htm
“The CFTs have very little adverse effect on the F-16’s renowned performance,” said Maj. Timothy S. McDonald, U.S. Air Force project pilot for CFT testing at Eglin. “A set of CFTs carries 50 percent more fuel than the centerline external fuel tank, but has only 12 percent of the drag.” The CFTs are designed for the full F-16 flight envelope – up to 9 g’s, maximum angle of attack and sideslip and maximum roll rate.
I’m not sure how good the design of drag-reducing for the EF-2000’s CFT is, but if it is at least as good as the F-16I’s CFT, then the 1,500 L fuel of EF-2000’s CFT shall be equal to no less than the 1,350 L of Typhoon’s internal fuel.
The predicted date of FOC for LCA Tejas MK1: 2003 (The initial prediction) –> 2008 (2003) –> 2011 (2008) –> 2012 (2010) –> 2013 (2011) –> 2015 (2013) –> No early than 2016 (The newest prediction now)……

The GaN unit has 4~5X output performance of the GaAs unit. However, the GaN’s unit cost is 25X of the GaAs unit cost in 2005.
When the era of GaN will come? When its unit cost will has been reduced to much less than 4~5X of GaAs unit one day.
The drama series of “We will sign the contract soon, very soon, extremely soon, sooner than you can image” since 2012:applause:
I wonder which one will become the truth faster? The day that the productional Eurofighter finally gets its own AESA radar? or the day that Rafale finally gets its first confirmatory export sale?
1,500 should also be a reasonable estimation according to the RUSI analysis mentioned below:

Therefore, a larger nose section can mount a wider AESA with more TR modules. ‘Captor-E’ incorporates around 20% more TR modules than the AESA radars mounted on the F/A-18E/F and F-35 and up to 40% more than the Rafale’s RBE2-AA, giving greater range and resolution over those systems.

Around 1,500 T/R modules according to the video mentioned above.
