It’s difficult for me to understand how you guys in US can’t see that you ll get whatever LM think would be better for you, whether it will be F-16, F-35, F-22, UAV, UCAV, JUCAV etc.
LM could of course present things in such a way that whatever would be the decission it would seem inevitable and reasonable.
I even wonder if those laws against monopoly can touch companies like LM.
I suppose the whole discussion would mean smth only if we were talking about three or even two competitive companies i.e manufacturer of F-16, manufacturer of F-22 and manufacturer of F-35.
Now…
think
A completely alternative proposal.
It will be remote controled, probably smaller than a predator which will be fitted with “emotions scanner”. It will fly over stadiums or crowded places and will track people dangerous for the public. It might use non lethal weapons since it will not have any legal coverage to kill people. It could also fly over hostile areas where it would identify people that are generally nervous.
The next weapons will be focused in human beings not to say feelings.
ONCE again the Falkland Islands, in the South Atlantic, are under assault. In London preparations are already under way to celebrate the 25th anniversary next year of Britain’s victory over Argentina in the Falklands war. But if Argentina’s president, Néstor Kirchner, gets his way, Britain will not be celebrating for long. Backed by his Venezuelan counterpart, Hugo Chávez, Mr Kirchner has launched a new verbal offensive over the islands’ sovereignty, claimed by both Argentina and Britain.
Hey, SOC take it easy man. It’s just a phrase without anything to back this statement. Besides, the economist is a paper to support certain ideas not to inform you about real facts.

It seems that the fact that EF could carry and drop bio-chemical weapons has been disclosed. Who said that the integration procedure for AtG weapons was slow?
Although I saw those planes in a display only twice, one of which was an old Farnborough show, I got the impression that Eurofighter was far better than F-16. Actually the EF started its show with F-16’s most impressive manouvre.
Which means that either there is no objective view from spectactors (including myself) or the planes’ performance has changed.
It is so clear that there are at least two different views of the facts that it is simply impossible one side to convince the other. What I don’t understand from some people is that they cannot accept that simple truth.
I just wanted to hear the opinion of some Israelis. I suppose it would be better for them if they just throw away from their country all arabs and have clear borders and a country with hebrew nationals. The rest of the world would react but it would be a clear solution. Then every attack would have been from another nation whatever that means for international policy. It is at least suspicious either from great powers or from Israel itself that don’t support such a solution.

“We’re ready for a possible future purchase depending on how the price of oil goes.””
Here’s a good reason for oil prises to drop. Oil prises up, east european stock markets down, even UK real estate goes down… my personal finance turned to drama…
Why? These people reagard death as being quite different to what those in the west with Judao-christian origins believe. As far as they are concerned this act will grant tham accesss to paradise and at the same time people like you will jump up and say oh my god they must have been desperate all americans are evil, therefore just giving them what they want.
And dont for a moment think that prison suicides are limited to guantanamo bay, in fact its record on this issue would make alot of european prisons jealous. Its bizzaare that people think that the people who are held in Guantanamo bay should somehow just be let out when most of them would happily fly a plane into a sky scraper with the first opportunity they get.
Should I understand that this is the way you speak to your “allies”? If that is so, why don’t you call us “servants”? At least you would be for once honest – at last.

Although it is out of subject but since the whole thread got out of subject I will contribute by giving a few sencences of what BBC wrote today about Guantanamo.
The suicides of three detainees at the US base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, amount to acts of war, the US military says.
The camp commander said the two Saudis and a Yemeni were “committed” and had killed themselves in “an act of asymmetric warfare waged against us”.
Lawyers said the men who hanged themselves had been driven by despair.
A military investigation into the deaths is now under way, amid growing calls for the detention centre to be moved or closed.
Walter White, an international lawyer who specialises in human rights, told the BBC the Guantanamo camp was likely to be considered a “great stain” on the human rights record of the US.
There have been dozens of suicide attempts since the camp was set up four years ago – but none successful until now.
The men were found unresponsive and not breathing by guards on Saturday morning, said officials.
They were in separate cells in Camp One, the highest security section of the prison.
I believe this was not an act of desperation, but an act of warfare waged against us
Rear Adm Harry Harris
Camp commander
They hanged themselves with clothing and bed sheets, camp commander Rear Adm Harry Harris said.
He said medical teams had tried to revive the men, but all three were pronounced dead.
As you realise it is impossible for all us who are not Americans to take this incident as an act of war. I suppose that if whoever wants to make a war in the name of “coalition” and be supported by his “allies” should at least respect basic humanitarian beliefs otherwise he should do the job himself.
So, as long as we Europeans are part of this mess I think we share responsibility for actions we don’t like at all.

I hear this argument again and again about the Hague court etc.
Just few questions – that nobody took care to answer
1. Supposing that both countries go to court which makes a verdict. How is the court going to enforce it?By Ms Del Ponte? Or by NATO, US, EU, UN, or whatever? Are you n$$$ all of you????
2. What if few years later a new debate for smth different starts. What are you people going to do? Go again to the court?
3. What if international treaties and law change in due time that might affect the dicision for or against one part. The other part will ask the case to be considered again. Then what are you going to do?
4. What if both countries that go to the court deny to withdraw the reasons for “casus belli”. That means that both countries have their limits and might declare that they won’t accept a decision against their interests. Then what do you think Ms Del Ponte will do? Send two helis to Athens and Ankara to kidnap the prime ministers?
I think realpolitik says for a case like this that the interest for both sides is nothing to change. Turkey will continue send their aircraft over Again because it has the right to do so and Greece will interept them because Greece also has the right to do so. If it was smth different from that a solution should had been found. But it hadn’t. So this situation is the interest of both sides.
