Was in Apps and Certs at CAA Gatwick a couple of years back.
‘The Sky Suspended’ by Jim Bailey,he flew Defiants[B of B] and Beaufighters,a fascinating read.
Many airfields indeed, but many are still missing-Rackheath,Beccles,Deopham green,Fersfield,Debach,Leiston -sure there are a few more.I only note these as I have flown over the East Anglian countryside for 30 years and tend to navigate by the disused airfields-like churches in E Anglia you are never out of sight of one!
Lockheed Hercules- a Poirot
Harrier- Bona Jet
Better late than never!
The flag is attached to a small Bakelite peg which fits the smaller dia hole of the socket arrangement shown in the photo cutting off battery power to the busbar[makes system safe on the ground],likewise a similar arrangement isolates the starter motor when on the ground.
Just had a bunch of instruments back from Mike Taylor Langley-good job, nice price!!
Always sad to see A/C I worked on end up like this-still it was 30 years ago
DB is quite right, less likely to fall off the wing during maintenance!! But also taxying with nozzles aft didn’t do much good to the flaps. Now where is my 10pence piece to check for delamination!-still a technique used on the 146.
Any chance of posting those pictures of Austers?
RAF Coltishall A Station History by Mick Jennings-excellent:D
Keithmac-we must know each other!
That’s sad to see-had a few ‘interesting’ backseat rides in it when it was Red 12 on No 1f.
Common sense prevails at last.My Auster has been on a PFA Permit since 1978,it is by far more airworthy than most of the Austers I have seen that have’Certificates of Airworthiness’.
