I’m sorry but I don’t see the point being made. The reality is that BA do not operate ANY flights (domestic or otherwise apart from MAN-JFK) that do not originate at,and return to,one of the London Airports, which is a far cry from the days when they had a virtual monopoly also at places like MAN/BHX/GLA/EDI.
I suspect they also only like LCY because nearly all seats are at premium fares and because it is not a “runner” for low cost competitors.
I’m not criticising what is probably a good commercial decision but where would they be if they hadn’t had a monopoly at LHR/LGW inherited from pre-privatisation days?
In my book they’ve already accepted defeat from the lo-costs (including abandoning their own!) to concentrate on their unassailable bases.Fine, but what are other airports going to do if those others fail, which some on this forum seem to be dying for to happen?

Nice shots there…..particularly as being my local I know how far away the Air France and Air Southwest would have been.Forget getting too technical and download an editing programme (free) called Picasa off Google web site….it’s their own and was rated the best free package by the Sunday press. It automatically picks up pics from other storage locations and the straightening tool and sharpening option are fantastic to mention just two.In minutes you can vastly improve results without spending hours, where you could be watching planes, messing with more fancy software….IMHO.

I must seem like a Ryanair cheerleader but I’m not, indeed I’m infuriated that their online check-in cannot be accessed more than 2 days prior to flight meaning you have to pay check in fee if you can’t get online while you’re away. They’re almost impossible to contact other than online as well.Nevertheless,I think this constant drip of criticism of lo-costs (with veiled insinuations over safety) is outrageous from a group who benefit more than any other from an ability to pursue our hobby at prices a tenth of what they’d have been with mainstream airlines if they’d continued to rule the roost.Someone in the industry said the other day, when a watchdog criticised the “extra costs” with Ryanair etc, that people still don’t grasp the idea of the lo-cost business model and insist on comparing it with other modes of travel. How true!……..but what a shame enthusiasts in the very area concerned are guilty as well.Statistically,Ryanair have the best on-time record in Europe and NO European lo-cost has yet lost an a/c.I can think of one or two “majors” who have in recent times. Finally,I’d have to add that as far as I know EI have become a loco themselves on their Europe network for the very reason they can’t survive the competition AND are serving so called weird places like Poznan for one.

Many thanks for all the responses and for those who have provided others with additional info. For the record there is only ever 2 major days…….arrivals around 2/3 Jan and departures about 10 days later………usually the Saturday but was a Wednesday in 2006!Not improved this year by about 14 of the Saturday deps going from Linz due to SZG charges (incl every YK42 that day!)

    Adam,

You’re right that Flybe fly to Glasgow (which doesn’t have a rail link to the city)
Pity they hardly fly to Bristol despite their claim to be the South Wests original low cost airline.
It’s a bit like Coca Cola advertising they’re the original cola if they’d stopped making it!
They’re all pushing the limits of advertising

Sorry but I’d have thought the TC one would need to win an international photographic competition to warrant any comment over a Bangkok a/w 717 !!!

Never quite got to the bottom of this but I believe a combination of visiting ex-pat families and cheap skiing prior to the main season (mainly Brits from mid-Jan to mid-March).Has been as many as 40 ish soviet bloc arrivals on a January Saturday……even featured in Aircraft Illustrated articles and many others.Terrace and fences heaving with Dutch and German enthusiasts.
