So I don’t get misunderstood,I think there’s a fair chance some of FR’s charges will be banned by law in the not too distant future,in the UK at least, and I,for one will be cheering from the sidelines,as a punter.
I’d support (actively possibly!) any passenger group or consumer body acting against some of their practices, but I’ve hardly made it a secret that I think airport authorities are as least as disreputable (a view echoed by a majority of travellers in a recent survey) and,as for airlines,Flybe have only a week or so ago been singled out by the OFT as having card charges as monstrous as FR,or within 5%.
Andy,I think in fact that the problem at Girona is that the local authority have reneged on a done deal if the anna.aero piece is accurate. As the same article says 95% of passengers are on FR I’d say they’re pushing their luck!
    Paul,thanks for comments on pics

No problem with the action of Pau and to be fair I looked later at their movements….about 9 a day to Paris (both apts) and LYS,so probably could be sustained on those alone. However, from 15-19 Feb inclusive their only international dep is FR to STN.Frankly,I think it’s wishful thinking some other foreign carrier will set up a range of routes without a similar inducement, but we will see.
Whilst not exactly applauding their stand,as I simply don’t share the hatred of Ryanair,I fully support their right to make it.
I DO NOT agree with your assertion other places have lost FR and gained newcomers……..Friedrichshafen,Brescia,Newquay,Stockholm Vasteras are examples where nothing has ever replaced lost FR routes, and there are many others.
Dusseldorf Weeze,Lubeck,Girona.Beauvais as examples have no more than 2 non-FR flights
What would happen to local jobs if they lost the only outfit with the scale of size required?

When one considers that the thread when MAN told FR to “Foxtrot Oscar” some months ago could reasonably be seen as immense,it’s stretching my imagination to believe none of the posters know about the reversal, yet not a “dickie bird” of a comment.
Indeed,we have a mod posting about the latest FR threat but failing even to comment about the negative effect it had on a major UK airport when they tried to call the bluff.
I try to err towards the mildly ironic rather than confrontational, but it IS a bit one sided,eh?

I notice everyone on AW has studiously avoided mentioning the fact that the “we will not prostitute ourselves” team at MAN is back on the street corner with the other toms, having got FR back but pretending it’s a different situation if they use T2 at off peak times!!
I predict the demise of Pau as a viable airport if the likes of Flybe stick with them as long as they stuck with BOH etc.Like it or not, most airports the size of Pau have failed to attract any other operator following a FR pull-out.

You may be correct….time will tell, but it is a fact that the only route CURRENTLY being confirmed as scrapped from PLH is the one on which they’d faced recently arrived competition on one sector of the route.I suspect a major slice of the pax load was historically boarded at NQY

The writing has been on the wall for PLH since another airline decided to operate from the region to LGW,but wasn’t that the whole idea?
I’ve heard it suggested another location in the region has been “actively discouraged” from courting lo-cost operators. It’s a dog eat dog business and a no-brainer to see where passengers will gravitate towards if PLH doesn’t survive!
Good news indeed for “you” at the moment

I’m sure there must be paid lounges as it is in the top ten airports worldwide but I’ve never availed myself.
Of course, you could leave your luggage at a paid facility and walk to the good location fairly light.

    Hi Kabir
Good views from a window upstairs in T1/T2 including photographically if you’re happy thro’ glass
Alternatively, take metro one stop (away from city) to Barajas station……turn left outside and walk half mile to some mounds the other side of a traffic island, where views are excellent and most stuff has to taxi past.More distant are the Iberia wide bodies and possibly Lan/Avianca and Aeromexico, but within 300mm lens range.
Best Western Villa Barajas is near metro station (same road) and is reasonably priced.

    Hi Rob

Glad you understand my angle and I wish you all the best with your suggested course of action.
Just to make it even clearer…..I’d rather watch paint dry than get into photography as an interest……..I only got respectably good, with equally respectable kit,’cos I want a record of the aircraft I spend a fortune travelling to see.
I’d wager I’m not alone on here.

    Mmmm great days
Sterling actually did Colombo in Sri Lanka with the 10Bs as well ……one caught fire there due to brake overheat I recall
More recently Transwede did ARN-ORD with MD80s

And we shouldn’t forget Flyglobespan used 738s to Hamilton,Ontario

I understand your frustration and I think they might have asked but nobody has mentioned this airline is from a different country and culture, and they may not have foreseen any problem.
I don’t know who you regard as being negative but I feel it is imperative to stress many of us on here (maybe the majority) were taking pictures of aircraft because of our love of them before digital was invented. Most of us were happy to “collect” our own results and perhaps share them with friends.A minority succeeded in getting shots in magazines, but I seem to recall World Airline Fleets News (now called something different) used to insist:-
The aircraft had to be remarkable in some respect
The sun had to be on the aircraft
The aircraft had to be free of clutter e.g. steps etc
Film used had to be 64ASA
Focal length had to be 50mm
The shot had to be accompanied by some narrative e.g why was a/c visiting airport in question

Now I see 20 people taking the same shot at airports and all putting them on the web

With respect,to say this is work (especially to those of us who see it as pleasure) or to compare it with the work of a musician, lyricist or author is pushing the boundaries a bit.

That’s why not everyone will see it as you do

Agree totally but I’d bet this was someone putting the “fleet” list together online in a hurry and using a quick fix to their lack of one particular shot

Without wishing to argue with someone who is obviously well qualified and who is expressing a credible view for the usual sort of case of “stealing” intellectual property,I feel everyone’s getting carried away. The airline isn’t selling the image for gain or even really using it for promotion. It’s been used to illustrate ONE member of their fleet in a subsection of their site most customers wouldn’t venture.
My amazement is that the airline may not have enough funds to buy a compact and get a staff member to take their own shot.
Seriously, though,I suspect when they were putting this section together they found they hadn’t a great shot of that airframe to hand and thought “let’s get one off the net”
Naughty, but I’d be delighted they’d thought my pic suitable for the purpose and at most tell them of my delight and ask to be mentioned in a credit on it.After all, they’re hardly going to pay when they can withdraw it and walk outside to ‘graph it themselves!

I don’t think it’s right to denigrate anyone’s efforts and,for the record,I think Rob’s shot is superb, but I’d question this constant reference to “work”.
If we were talking about a musician’s or author’s work, then fine but there is a terrible kid-ology here about taking pictures of planes as a pastime.
If I thought of what I were doing as “work”,I’d pack it up!
I stand to be corrected, but I know of no contributor to the forum who makes his/her main living from taking aircraft photos and I’ll say,for the umpteenth time, this whole site is descended from a magazine of the same name aimed very firmly at the hobbyist end of the market.
Most people I know who log onto the site are interested in news, information, events, pictures of interesting visitors etc,and are being put off by this sort of topic and endless repeats of the same material in the Images forum, which I suspect is why the number of viewers is so low and the number of regular posters even lower.
If so many claim to be involved with the industry in some way, why,oh why, can’t we have some life breathed into the site?
Slightly drifting from topic,I know.Rant over as is often said!
