Hi Rob
You seem to be doing well with new equipment…….fantastic clarity.
Shame about the tyre.
I twiddle my thumbs most Mondays so could have joined, had I known.
Barry
In an attempt to be more helpful and less of an equipment “snob” than many of my fellow enthusiasts may I recommend the panasonic FZ28……Leica lens speaks for itself and 27 – 486 zoom (35mm equivalent) takes some beating and then there’s the 4x digital zoom on top of that.In terms of range it will better an SLR unless with expensive long zoom and if you’ve got very steady hands or can steady against a fencepost or suchlike it will get pics at a range an SLR can’t match.
You will have to contend with a fiddly zoom lever, however.
Here’s an example about a mile from camera at Milan MXP lat September……OK it’s not perfection but what so called “proper” camera can do this? It’s at least 1500mm equivalent in SLR terms
Approx £230 and by the way I have full SLR kit as well so I’m not speaking from prejudice.

Barry
Thanks Paul
Thanks Steve
As it arrived at Kemble for parting out it looks like you’re correct!

Very nice shots

I simply stopped the car (hazard warning lights on!) on the road along the fence before you get to the terminal and got pic thro the fence and from the nearby crash gate thro’ the fence using a combination of SLR and bridge compact both with lenses small diameter enough for the purpose!
I had the advantage of knowing from the local Exeter Yahoo group (Runway 26) where it was parked and had cameras on my lap so I wasn’t stationary too long.
To be fair,it’s just possible to get off the road into muddy inlets in a couple of places.

Thanks for the comments so far.Yes,it is an ex FlyAnt machine and is covering Titan mail flights.

Something different from an airport we rarely see.Great luckwith the angle of attack as well.
Barry
It’s biggest problem is the lack of props or IL-18 written on the nose!!
Pete
Good trip wasn’t it?
I’d be struggling to select from my 577 shots so pleased to see you’ve chosen to post some!
Anyway, here’s Deano and the JEDI (sounds like a film) as my pennyworth.

Barry
Guess at ft.myers just based on a visit and photoing at a very similar location some years back.
Barry
Not all EZ then,Rob!
I think the AT42 is rather a nice shot and not always easy to get if they’re using
R27

I’d say it’s Fort Myers in Florida. Are you going to let us know whenyou find out?

I’ve no disagreement with what you say fundamentally and I’d never want anyone excluded. It’s not my forum after all,is it?
However, this surely is a forum related to an internationally selling publication and I do not accept the thousands (or tens or hundreds of thousands, for all we know) POTENTIAL viewers expectations should be ignored so that a small group (and remember that includes me) can post repetitive material.Like you,I live near BRS…….the traffic is boring so although I photograph it,I rarely post it or even email it to my friends……sorry!!
What I think is really the problem to many people I know is that even when such material is posted,a small group on here want an endless discussion about the technical merits of the shot,DESPITE the Webmaster’s requirement to keep text content to a minimum.Yes,I know I’m offending right now but it’s difficult to avoid in this instance!!!It’s quite obvious to me and others just looking at the links to other photo sites that some include in the posts that many are seeking acclaim for their efforts, not trying to show enthusiasts at large what’s going on around UK and other airports.Barry
Dear,oh dear! This is all getting a bit discouraging to people who just want to see interesting a/c pics. The sub-forum heading says “a forum to post your pictures”.So why have various “cliques” turned it into a digital editing forum,or an educational forum,or a mutual congratulation forum?
I’m not wanting to aportion blame, but to use two expressions from this thread, yes, many people seem to be “up themselves” and I know for a fact of many people who’ve stopped looking because of the constant repetition of material from the same contributors followed by the same post-mortem on the cleverness or otherwise.
This thread was a classic case in point……..I only looked at it because it was MAN and I thought “wonder whether anything interesting came in?”!!!!
I’d like to hear what the Webmaster or Key Publishing or any Mods not part of the problem think.
You wouldn’t buy the magazine to read these arguments or to see pictures you’ve seen a hundred times so,come on,let’s have something which appeals to a wider audience befoe the site dies.
I don’t know Steve Rowell but he stands out as the exception who maturely keeps his posts above it all and I must congratulate him.He probably likes to just keep abreast of what/who flies where and to see pics of it all.
