Maybe now the site of the Squadron will fall fill the vision my late father had for place when he took it from 0 to 2000 members as the first manager 30 years ago in 1989
I would Like to say well done Peter many year of great memories. I remember sitting around waiting for the Mustang to come back to Hangar 6 in the early days hope you enjoy flying the old girls without the pressure of displays. Like Dizzy said a good pilot knows when to step down from display flying once again well done and thanks
Darren (ex Aces high )
A very nice old Nord 2501 flying West on Sat over Montlucon France
Always good to catch up with what was my home for many years also good to see lot going on as always.
For me I would go for SU-30 and F-18 with a mix of E/F and G would do quite nicely up to 2040 also make the 2 to Growler units Mixed airforce and navy crews so they can go to sea with the carrier group after 2020 start working on 5 gen replacements
If I was a smaller country with limited funds i.e can’t go top end looking for say 40-50 aircraft it go like this
US backed F-5 E/F
not wanting a US type Mirage F-1 E ( My top vote )
Non Western Mig-21 Bis
as a side step if I was a smaller country and my air-force was supporting my navy then Sea Harrier FRS-1 and Mirage F-1
1 )F-18 Hornet
2 ) F-1 Mirage & F-18 Hornet
Mirage F1 for me in most cases however if I needed a twin engine type then I would go for a F-4 E
So 12 (B) Squadron will stand up on Typhoon and part of its duties will be to help Qatar pilots and ground staff work up on Typhoon
I agree no real news here this goes back some time now as said a few will be keep on for trials and PR work
Or maybe Governments keep moving the goal posts and budgets
Mirage 111 for me please however if it was long range intercept needed then the F-4’s twin engines win out
Nice to see its not just the UK having problems with new ships
maybe Norway should look at AW159 Wildcat if the UK are dumb enough to get rid of them
