If you found yourself in a F-35 B/C getting into a knife fight is last thing you want as both do not have a gun fitted. when will this mistake stop being made history has proved time and time again the need for a gun its the last line and whilst a aircraft has rounds its still able to fight
Not fitting a gun to the B/C models will need sorting out at some point it always does and once again it will be a bolt on job but this time it will hurt the stealth side of the type as will all this hanging off it

Uh huh, I believe you.
Believe what you like π
all I will say is he was also a test pilot on Typhoon and likes Gnats π
At this time Brasil operates 12 F-2000 Mirages 60 AMX and 57 F-5E/F it plans to gradually withdraw the F-5s from 2017 to 2030 and 43 of AMX air frames will be upgraded from 2013 and will be retired in 2032 and the Mirage 2000 maintenance contract runs out in 2013. Add to this the Navyβs 12 A-4s which are also being upgraded and will also be withdrawn in 2025 .If Brasil was to buy 30 SH or Rafale M to enter service in 2015 allowing the new type to operate from the carrier this will also allow time to see how the price of F-35 & T-50 goes in 2020-2025

With such players as LM -Boeing – NG the US will build new in house to meet there need
Lets not for get that Brasil want to operate a carrier as well so logic should see SH or Rafale come out on top but and it is a big but if sea Gripen gits off the ground it might just sneak in and if Denmark and the Netherlands were to go Gripen it could see the price come down a bit more but its not tested
It’s a simple matter of cost.
You keep your military forces for dangerous stuff on the front line, anything else can be civvy. Why do you need to keep an expensively trained military chap sitting round most of the time. You are responsible for his training, food welfare, accommodation etc. That is expensive. The civvy company just charges for the work it does.
We will still have crews sitting around only now costing half as much again as for food its pay as you eat at Brize as for training we have already paid for it as the new company is just nicking RAF crews and will keep doing so until they run out then put the price up or walk away. also in time of conflict the tankers are a must and as much as we try to keep them safe they are a target and lets not for get a lot of handling staff will still be RAF. This will end up costing two or three times more in the long run
I feel that SAAB should look in to adding Brimstone to the E/F and maybe the C+ I feel this would give the type a very good ground support capability if configured with two 500 pound Paveway on the outer pylons two 450 gal drop tanks on the in bored and six brimstone on the centre line plus AIM-9s on the tips. Add to this that the E/F will carry AIM-120 and or Meteor and I think it can carry storm shadow this would make Gripen compatible with Typhoon and Rafale

I like this Gripen

Love this tonka
I spoke to 2 of our pilots who have flown Gripen at ETS and they say if you manage the energy right it is a hand full for most 4.5 gen types
Also add to this the new Gripen is more powerful with better radar and has more weapon in line with Typhoon and Rafale
One of these has also flown F-35 and feels you would still need a air to air type as well
its not all about being in line with the US. its also about doing what you need to do once we all have F35 and no else is making fighter types the US will **** us all you will only be able to do what they want ( ie Suez’s)
As said if the French send Rafale to Maple Flag they may stay on to do some promoting come testing of the type and they have not lost to much as the aircraft are there and the crews will get good multi threat training the same could be said for the RAF and Typhoon
That’s why I don’t think that Dassault would answer to such a bid. π
It will be interesting to see if the French send Rafale to Maple flag this year
