From the first time I posted on this thread I reckoned Denmark should go for Gripen E/F. if F-35 is not taken on someone said LM don’t want to sell Denmark new F-16s they will soon change there minds if Denmark bins F-35 as I said before buying new F-16s might be a way out of F-35 penalties.

To date from 2000 the Danish Air Force F-16s have carried out operations 2002-2003 743 sorties over Afghanistan 2004-2009-2011 Baltic Air Policing missions 2011 no fly zone missions over Libya so for a air force with few jets they are worked hard this will also help if they need to bin F-35 as a country who brings it flag to the table the US may need them in another coalition. So for my money Gripen is the best option but if LM make it hard over F-35 new F-16s may win the day

Swerve where is your money in this 🙂

Lets not forget that the Indian Navy is going down the same lines with the Vikramaditya class aircraft carrier and intended to operate Mig-29K and is looking at Rafale M. India is also looking to operate up to 3 carriers in the future

If Denmark was to buy new F16s it might off set a pulling out of the F35 program

One of the things said about JF-17 is its lack of thrust so for this aircraft a new engine could make difference and if it was to get Western avionics that would also be a game changer. No one in the West will buy JF-17 my point was that if you are looking at cost then types like JF-17 offer an option

As for a twin engine fighter for Denmark you are right that they are safer but the running costs are higher so I think Denmark will stick with single engine fighter

If all Denmark is looking for is a platform to defended sovereignty then JF17 would do what a shock this would be for the West’s industry . Pakistan has already opened talks with British Italian and French firms over avionics and weapon upgrades what if JF17 was fitted with an EJ200 this would bring its performance well into f16 reach. But off the shelf it would do and at $15-20 million its cheap. I know this wont happen but its an eye opener

I still feel Denmark should go for Gripen

I just read that Yak 130 has instructor controlled fly by wire system which allows the aircraft to be flown in light-medium & heavy mode which helps integrate the trainee to the next type dose M346 – Hawk – T50 have this ?

The Hawks first job will always be as a trainer but to add value and make it that little bit more attractive Bae need show air forces that if they buy Hawk not only are they getting a great trainer but in times of conflict it has a second role and that it can do more than the rest ie that it can carry and use 12 Brimstone missiles or three 500 pound bombs and sniper pod plus 150 gal centre line EFT

Hawk by its self can’t fire AIM-120 but with a Typhoon or F35 /F22 can dater share and act as a missile carrier firing it missiles at max range then turning for home letting the high end assets to get into the broken and confused formation

If the Bae Hawk is to keep up with this new set of jet trainer / light attack aircraft Bae need to work on the software and weapons it can offer ie Hawk has a weapons load of 6850 lbs which is more than the M346 and the Yak 130 with the right software Hawk 128 could carry up to 12 Brimstone missiles or 8 AIM 120 with a 150 gal centre drop tank plus 2 AIM 9 on tip rails this could make it a very good buy for anyone looking for training aircraft that can back up types such as Typhoon and Gripen or air forces who need one type for two jobs. Also if Bae was to fit an in flight refuelling systems to aid with in flight refuelling training on a low cost platform saving hours on top end assets

I am sorry if I was not clear but I was referring to the two types and not trying to make them one

As for a single engine F-5F Northrop Grumman just need to brake out the F20 plans and test dater with that pencil and add a second seat . How ever we start to move away from trainer / light attack aircraft to something a bit closer to F-16

I think Northrop Grumman should brake out the F-5F plans and a pencil lets face it F5F has much the same performance as these new jets its 7000lb weapons load is more than Yak-130- M346 and as a light attack aircraft it has better power to weight and rate of climb plus the US already operate the T38- F5 Yes its an old design but again let face it so is BAE Hawk

Hawk T2 is a good bit of kit and the US Navy use the Goshawk but will the US air force use an upgraded old British jet ?

I think the US will go T-50 if they don’t design something new but this will lead to a all LM fast jet fleet F22 F35 T50 with LM in put how boring

The Navy Hawker Seahawk could do with help. plus the Harrier is much missed and do able wish list a Tempest V but 2 is more likely or Firefly 1
