What? How can Tu-22M3’s refuel mid-air? I thought this capability only existed on some M2 variants before being removed due to SALT talks at the time. Have they modified the backfires?
Hi guys,
If this thing is fitted with AL-41’s, will it be able to supercruise or not?
No probs mate!
Thanks for understanding!
Jonesy:
Just one clarification, its the Persian Gulf as per UN charter (official name of the body of water between Iran and Saudi Arabia due to the length of Iran’s coast line and officially recognised by all member states.). The historic name dating back to the time of Roman historian accounts is also Persian Gulf. The body of water beteen Iran and oman however is known as the Oman sea or the Arabian Sea where it meets with the Indian Ocean. Please see the following links as well:
Guys one question
Is there a possibility to use the FT-2000 in an anti SEAD role, for example when you have Harm carrying F-16 CJ’s in the area and have to turn off your radar, you can use this passive missile against it instead. I dont know wheter it still needs a radar for the initial lock or wheter you can shoot it (without radar may be just random salvo’s or optically guided) and obtain a lock later?
Also the passive HOJ seeker on the Russian AA-10 Alamo missile has a claimed range of 200km, if the FT-2000 has a similar ranged seeker than you may even lock before launching the SA-2/ Could someone please elaborate?
Guys
Would you care to elaborate taking the geography of the Persian Gulf and the Hormoz Strait into account, what is the most potent Iranian AShM and whats its theoretical range, platform…etc and how effective would it be if it was to be used against a US CVBG in salvos. I mean Iran can launch AShm from Su-24’s, F-4’s, Its fast attack missile boats as well as land based launchers which can be mounted on Iranian Islands or coast line. Given the size of the Persian Gulf, Tracking a CVBG should not be a big problem. please elaborate?
Also why are they making AShM with such small ranges while they have longer ranged ones? Thanks
