I’m not knowledgeable in this field, I had heard though that the two outer engines on the A380 had no reverse thrust. Maybe the facility is there, just not available ?

    I can see it coming.

Cabin crews only complaint with me is the amount of hand baggage being brought on board. Passengers like to hide it, check in, and pick it up again.

The use of hand baggage tags is a sound idea, but it slows up check in, and isn’t 100% foolproof.

Do you challenge a passenger when they’re boarding, knowing you’re tying yourself up for 3-4 minutes, or just let them on board ?

With a 30-35 minute turnaround, you have no option than to tick them off and let them on, or else risk a delay as you take payment for an extra bag, and load it into a compartment that’s already probably closed by this point, and then inform the captain of an an extra bag. If he’s got out of bed on the wrong side, he’ll want a new load sheet (I’ve had this happen a few times).

In short, there’s a market for this, like it or not. If the airlines want to go ahead with it I’ll have an extra 5 minutes on the turnaround please !

Realistically, anyone travelling with less than a laptop is rare in my experience, and I’ll badger them to death until they admit they have a transfer bag that’s not in the system.

I suppose if you go away for the weekend you can just take your toothbrush in your pocket and turn your underwear inside out half way through the break ๐Ÿ˜€

I work woith a certain British Airline that’s started doing this, and I feel the whole idea whiffs a bit. When you pay, you state you are able to assist. If you turn up at the airport a sweating hulk with oxygen tanks strapped to your wheelchair, no, you don’t get a refund and you sit where you’re told.

I only deal with CO 757s. Row 7 and 16 are certainly worth paying a few $$ more for, but I wonder if they’ll admit row exit row 15 has the extra legroom but non reclining seats ?

Seems a bit shady to charge for something that’s a requirement to have in the first place, will airlines be charging for having a blast on the oxygen masks next ?

Not looking for excuses, as this really was inexcusable. At the time this happened, the amount of snow piled up that had been ploughed was so high that from an aircraft you couldn’t see the runway / taxiway on the other side of the snowpile.

I guess you could still see it from the tower though :p

I hope they give him more legroom than I had going from LHR to Nice.

And will they let him onboard with his staff and pointed hat?
I bet security will have something to say about that.

Pontius Pilate and the Cabin Crew.

You’ll think I’m making this up, In BA’s PRS system ‘Holy Water’ is an option available to over ride an excess baggage charge. This only appeared around six months ago too IIRC, it can only have been put there as something has cropped up in the past.

Working at OSL, I don’t think there’s a market for it.

Norwegian hit the nail on the head with their Premier League campaign, So many Norwegians go over to watch the football I’m amazed another carrier hasn’t started to Manchester or Liverpool. The SAS flight always seems to be booked solid, most times I try to book OSL MAN direct I end up being offered a stop over in CPH, I’d rather do OSL LHR MAN with BA.

If Norwegian go ahead with the EWR route, they might consider a route up north. Lots of US PAX have family here.

Edited to add, driving from Oslo up to you via Geirangerfjord and maybe a night in ร…lesund is something every visitor should do !

I haven’t seen any at OSL for a while now, They have 5-6 737 parked up at remote stands most days too.

Norwegian have an ex-Finnair MD that turns up from time to time. You can see where the Finnair paint has been removed, the logo is still visible where the paint around has been bleached by the sun.

I checked in online once on a SAS 737, only to be greeted with an MD at the gate. Due to the aircraft change my seat allocation was gone and I was ‘lucky’ enough to sit next to the engine. The aircraft was a tired old rocket, and the seat was well past it’s sell by date, but like an old armchair it was well broken in and super comfy.

I had a charter gate the other day with a creaky old MD, the crew wanted the weights in imperial units for their loadsheet. That was a first for me ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I find when it comes to the cabin crew as a rule of thumb the better paid they are, the worse they are.

Yep, I guess you’ve just started working with a handling agency !

Floorwalking is a crappy job, but the airlines insist on it. A certain British Airline is mad keen on it.

If anyone is flying over the Atlantic, forget it and just sent them to the check in desk and save everyones time. The APIS on most terminals is shocking.

Look at it as a positive, and not a negative and you won’t get yourself down about it.

As the passenger approaches, just kindly ask if they’ve checked in yet – harmless enough and not unreasonable. If yes then you can direct them to the correct check in desk (as all pax are magnetically drawn to the business desk !).

If the passenger says no, just ask ‘do you want to use our check-in machines, then you can chose your own seats’. No reasonable person will refuse this, and you’re telling the truth.

If they say ‘No’ then you have two options, if they are not able to do it themselves then you’ll just have to help them. This won’t be too many people in reality. If they are really stand-offish then you just need to resort to facts and point out there are no check in desks, only bag drops and they’ll have to do it.

Remember if a passenger complains that you made them use a check in machine, this is exactly what the airline want you to do.

I like the sound of you, you sound like you have some passion and put yourself in the passengers shoes ๐Ÿ˜€

None of my airlines have a dress code for fare paying passengers. Staff and upgrades have to look the part (in theory, if I’m oversold and rushing to upgrade as we’re boarding I don’t really care)

However, my theory is the handling agents dropped the ball and oversold business. They used this as an excuse rather than admit their mistake, I’ve seen similar tactics used before. :dev2:

    .. Krabi Air for one,

    http://www.krabi-airline.com/aboutkair.html

They only mention 767 on the website now but they were supposed to do Oslo to Thailand with 747’s.

OSL even went so far as to make the digital signage for the check in areas, I wasn’t holding my breath as the advertised prices were higher than Thai who started up the route at the same time.

    Seatguru has it bang on.

I work with Continental and work the gate around once a week when I’m not doing another carrier.

I preseat people for the next days flight too.

7-14 go to Onepass members (they change to Eurobonus in a few weeks)

8 DEF goes to infant families or wheelchair passengers

    14 & 15 really are grim.

As per Seatguru, 16 is pick of the bunch and I never preseat people there so get to checkin early and ask for it specifically. However if business is full, 3 seats on 16 go to the cockpit crew as a rest area. Likewise 34 DEF is blocked for the cabin crew so don’t worry about that.

My choice would be row 7, acres of space. It’s by the door so *slightly* noisy and people stamp all over you on their way onboard, you might struggle with the overhead locker space, but you’ll be first off in the dash to beat the rush for immigration.

They change(d) to a one bag policy fairly recently, don’t assume it’s two. If you’re doing some extra shopping an extra bag is $50 at the airport.

… and big queues to the stinking toilets too.

As this flight is a charter it’ll be completely full. When I have a spare 5 minutes I edit flights. I sit all the infants in the right seat, get all the groups of kids separated and any frequent fliers up at the front. I also get big groups sitting together too.

I doubt you’ll have many kids on this flight, but lots of groups. These will all be preseated before the flight is open. Couples are easy to slot in anywhere, so I don’t bother preseating them.

Get there early or you’ll be risking it, or you can be a bit cheeky and request a wheelchair, then they’ll preseat you together. Just tell them when you check-in that you don’t need it. They wouldn’t have organised a wheelchair until you showed up, so it’s no great shakes, if a little cheeky.
