91 Infantry Brigade – for amphibious warfare

First off, hello to all my distinguished contributors. It’s been a long time since I have been away.

I do not know if this has been discussed before but the 91st Infantry Brigade was trained in Amphibious warfare and are slated to be on INS Jalashwa.

While I do not know much about their actual location of posting (either sea based or land based), my main question is this :-

Instead of raising a 5000 strong infantry for amphib. warfare, why does not the Ind.Govt think of going ahead with raising MARINES as another force which would have an air / sea lift capability?

(I know we have the Marine Commando Force – but it is more of a mission-specific commando force than an expeditionary force) Would it not be a good idea to slowly raise an Indian version of the US Marines / Royal Marines / Phillipine Marines?

Any enlightening points would be highly appreciable in discussing this topic.

    Cheers

    India’s Carrier Battlegroup complement

    So here’s the question.

Considering the fact that we would have 2-3 operational carriers in a very ‘strategically’ competitive world (in relation with what India’s North Eastern Neighbor is planning), what do you think India’s carrier battlegroup would consist of?

I dont understand ! Let’s assume if we do have 3 different types of IACs serving the Indian Navy, won’t it be an ‘inter-INOPERABILITY’ nightmare? What, with the different layouts of each aircraft carriers, different types of inside hull operations, systems et al?

The US has a range of carriers but their AIR CRAFT carriers are largely NIMITZ class types in the broad sense. IT is quite another thing that they have HELO carriers – but then HELO carriers and LHO carriers are a different category altogether as compared to (jet fighter aircraft carriers).

I respect Naval officers POVs. And when you have somoen like Verma stating that “it won’t be another copy” – well… good luck but … !!!

    Oi Mate !

Some of that aid went back to Britain with the Hawk trainers deal ay?
    Ye’ forget that too !!

Yay Yay Yay ya Brits.. Always forgetful

It would appear that India is doing a good job of spending the £1 billion in ‘aid’ that the UK provides every year.

That money would buy a lot of kit for our troops currently fighting and dying in Afghanistan.

My personal favorite in unique looking warbird is the F-4E Phantom with those angular wings and low down elevators. Nothing like it !!

    HI John,

I have been flying at times using real weather from departure airports. The only advantage of it is that your computer is updated (provided your comp is connected to the internet) with real weather conditions from Jeppessen.

THis real weather condition is updated every 15 minutes and you get to take off in conditions that are as realistic as you want to be. Perhaps the one advantage you can have is to virtually fly into real world weather patterns on your computer – and be tested for ever changing ones at that.

    Cheers & Happy Landings,

    Information Please.

I’ve been flying using real world weather which gives me details of the weather in the area I’m flying so what’s the advantage of this?

Times of India should have known that we already have a SEA KING on Indian Navy ships decks. However those were made by Westland (which itself builds Sikorsky S.Ks under license).

I wonder how different the US Made SKs would be. Any knowledgeable / proficient experts willing to shed light?

    Awaiting reply, cheers

    HI Ringway,

Thanks for the suggested links. I did download from those two links but again I’m hitting the same problem. MSFS2004 does not show the downloaded a/c in the choice of a/c to choose from.

Wonder if you (or others) tell me what is that I am doing wrong in the post download process?

    Help awaited

    Cheers

    HI
I know how it feels to have a faded look on ur a/c but looking at the two BA planes.. I’d suggest you still display them with soft lights (halogen lamps) angled in such a way that the fading is not too obvious. Trust me, angle the planes to the light source in such a way that they’d still look good.
It’s all in the tricks buddy… dont throw them off.

Hi all – just discovered this forum today.

I’ve got all the 1:200 StarJets I know of, but for various reasons they’ve been in their boxes for over a year. Pulled them out last night and found, to my horror, that two of the tails have gone yellow. It’s only the BA A319 and BA A321 that have done this – the rest are fine.

Anyone else had something like this happen to them? I take it my only option now is to replace them (if that’s still possible) and keep the old ones for spares? 🙁

And don’t worry about the rest – I’m moving next week, so straight down to IKEA for display cabinets 🙂

    A-380 other nicknames

    1) Humpy (coz it has a huge hump)
    2) Burger (coz it’s got 2 decks.. and it has some German inputs no?)
    3) Super-Guppy (taking a cue from its cargo cousin)
    4) Genie – (cuz it’s huge like Genie off the lamp)

    Anymore?

    Cheers

Hmm? Women being able to take high Gs or not?
Ahem.. be it a flying plane or a soft plane, inverted or non-inverted (top-gun speak), on top or below, they are built for high Gs and thrusts.

Ok I can’t keep a straight face .. but I swear, they can take the push n a shove.

Movies that scared or made me cringe

    1) Misery (psychological thriller)
    2) The Grudge
    3) and another japanese movie where people who watch a particular video die.. the last scene of that movie had the entire theater scream out of horror. (forgot the name of that one)

Most other movies which show diabolic creatures tearing apart human beings are more funny than horrifying in my opinion. It is the pychological thrillers that get my spine cold than a spoof like Alien or NMoE.Street

Anyways.. keep your lists coming in:)
