HI Indian – thanks a ton for your inputs. You have a point re. putting in a hundred ton of $$$ to raise a Marine Force.
However, we Indians have taken our military force structures and traditions – almost 90% from the Brits. Why I wonder, did we not transform the Royal Indian Marines (colonial times) into the IMs.

Anyways, thanks for your inputs. I must commend you on your learned comments and inputs on other threads as well. Keep it up.

    Cheers

for some poor souls up in the high mountains who have no clue – leave alone about the modern world but also of the developments in modern aviation, anything strange up in the sky and to the eye can definitely mean an unidentified flying object.
Maybe, either of the countries have a swept wing VTOL aircraft developed and hidden to be tested later in some foresaken base up on the plains……
Let’s leave this thread with rationale. Please?

Does it have to end in statistics?

I went through all the posts and found myself a bit irked by some of the posts where nations are listed in numerological order of highest to lowest donations.

What counts, my dear friends, is that nations have GIVEN and will continue to GIVE. Why concentrate on who has contributed how much in comparison?

The donations by all nations are for the cause of a calamity of a scope that was never envisioned. This is NOT a race or a competition on who tops and who downs in the list so let’s try to stop falling into the comparison statistics. Let the western media or whatever audio visual media make hay of their own home country’s contribution. But right now, whatever aid whichever contries make towards those who have been affected, COUNTS more than comparitive studies.

Let’s also remember one of the Asian virtues “…duty and donation do not call for commendation.. both are independent and both are solemn in tragedy..”

Amen, God Bless the departed souls and peace & solace to those left behind in suffering…

The last time USS Carl Vinsson was in HK (early 2004), we saw a few A-6s (or maybe they were in an EA version). Can’t blame myself, as we civilians got only a peep of what lies on deck.

The Sepecat Jaguar itself was designed with F-4 mainframe inputs – especially the rear section of the aircraft. The only differences between the Jag and F-4 being then that the Jag has smaller jet intakes, very angular tail fin and it’s got a fairly straight wing (without the bent wing of the F-4)

The reason why the Mitsu looks more like the F-4 is because of the striking similirity with the F-4 rear section (broad tail fin, low angle of attack of tail fin)

I do not doubt the talents of the scribes in India. If the report on SIFY.com showed it as “India will export its indegenously built advanced light helicopter ”Israel”, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) chairman Nalini Ranjan Mohanty said. – then it COULD translated as the first EVER delivery of a HELICOPTER from HAL is named as ISRAEL to the nation of Israelis . If this assumption is held fast, the reporter was right in his reporting style. Afterall, he quoted “Israel” .
I do not think this calls for a ridicule of a scribe’s talents. Perhaps, he M

EANT it as tongue in cheek. 😉

    Rank & Name under canopies

Silly Question it might be for you well informed types but what keeps us Indians from displaying Rank & Name of the officers from our fighters/ bombers?

Most notably the USAF has rank & Name (Flt.Lt.XXX.XXXXX) or (Capt.XXXX.XXXXXX) – mentioned on the canopy/nose section of the F, F/B & Bs.

Does it have to do with secrecy or it’s just not our tradition ? Well informed replies please ! 🙂

    Thanks & Regds

    Sameer,

Thanks for your input. Not that I understimat the GC, nor am I in the luxury to look into their records. Yet, a whole load of factors go into getting a plane off the ground.

Personally, I get agitated every time a plane and pilot of the IAF is lost. It doesn’t help how transparent we are in our audits or how transparent our system is. Bottom line is that LIVES are at stake and subsequently, pride !

I just hope the larger establishment (our govt) takes these crashes very, very seriously and GODDAMIT do something to reduce, if not stop, the crashes. …

(of course, I am a ‘joker’ as most airforce personnel would call their civvie counterparts.. what do I know? All I know is that I want the IAF to fly… not drop.)

One of the things that start blaring like a siren in the hangers is “GROUND CREW.. GROUND CREW… GROUND CREW.. GROUND CREW”. Our (Indian) pilots are a fine buncha trained men but does anyone talk about our ground crews? Are we missing something by not taking a close look at them?

Closing note ** – I have no lingering doubts about the g/c in our air force and I am sure, like the pilots, they come under heavey scrutiny even when they are 101% committed to the job.

    Hi Buddies,
Forgive me for asking but what’s the deal with having two tail planes instead of one? This seem to be a logical trend in the more recent aircrafts that we are seeing (beginning with F-15, Mig-25, F-14, Mig-29 & the more recent Sukhois..)
Valid inputs would help me 🙂 thanks in advance.
