    Sea Fury

Wonderful to see her resurrected as a historically representative machine. I seem to recall that elements or all of the wing folding mechanism was reported as removed by the initial purchaser of the original wrecked airframe for use in another, so have those mechanics all been refitted or are the wings now manually folded?

I know that at least one restoration shop in the US has built up wing fold mechanisms. So I think those parts are available to make any Sea Fury have folding wings.

Hope to see this machine at Oshkosh!

    Restoration

They have a web site for the museum that now has a link to the restoration status of the airframes that will be displayed in the future.

    Collection

Wow… this is turning into an amazing collection of aircraft in a VERY short period of time! Looking forward to seeing some of these aircraft return to the skies! Any idea when the Spitfire and P47 will arrive in Australia?

Oh, and good work on the latest issue of Classics Wings!

It is in Midland. I have seen some pics of it pieced together for display at Midland. Here is a photo taken back in July.

    Collection name

    Time Flies

That was a name I thought of for my collection but since you got a jump start on me you can use it! 🙂 Plus your collection is a long way from Texas!

I have been following this thread… one of my favorite movies…

Dave… I was told they used a Waco UPF-7 to put the actor in and fly around so that it was visually looking like he was flying. Looks like they even painted it yellow to match the Gee Bee Z! I too liked the Hughes charater…. well played. The romance of aviation comes out in the movie.

The Gee Bee in Classic Wings is a replica. I posted my notes on it on WIX…

My pictures of that replica are here…

I am a big fan of the Gee Bee’s and the movie! 😀

    Wow… great report!

How many people work in that shop?

The P-38 projects sound like an amazing addition to the already diverse collection of projects!

Yep…. lots of sponsor stickers on the Dornier!!

The Duck was one of the big highlights this year… for me at least… good looking machine! I like the short ring cowl too!

Another main highlight for me was helping a couple of veteran P47 pilots up into the cockpit of the Thunderbolt. These former pilots were so excited to sit in it again! One pilot said he had not sat in one for 60 years!

Andy…. Since Gary was working in the same hangar I figured he would know if the Shackleton flew or not! So, yes… he gave me the news.

James…. Shacklefort? SuperShack? 3350 with contra-rotating props? B29 with twin tails? Wow… that would be a fun machine.

Andy… my friend said they made it sound like it might fly again soon.

    interiors

I would like to add some interior shots… I just dont have very many! Only think I have pictures of two interiors. Now that the site is growing and some of the owners know me I might be able to get inside some at the airshows.

The site will continue to expand… the Texas heat is upon us so I see more computer time for me in the near future!
