yep, silver would have got my vote too or possibly cream……whatwith a Sea Fury being a maritime aircraft, zinc chromate would have not been very good (alone) in a marine environment.

No glass or wire in that part of the lamp old chap. The guard (brass) would have had glass init which obviously has gone. If you look carefully there will be two small screw holes which were used to scre it to a standard 5C/793 bakelite bulb holder. Your reflector (for want of a better word) has come away form this part (which would have had the wires etc in it).

At last a non heavy thread….keep it up

don’t you hate it when that happens? I have written a reply to several threads several times over 40 mins and it refused to post and now it does under a completely irrelevant silly title…..sorry all chaps and chapesses…..I need a Spitfire ale.

Red herring there Midway, the Firefly did not overfly Duxford village. All airfields tend to respect the locals and not overfly them below a certain height. Heavens knows we have to do it where I work. It is infuriating because the stupid local council approves housing on all sides of the airfield, therebyu increasing the whingers.

Regarding your post re the fitter being in the aircraft, you can rest assured he had a reason to be there. The Firefly is not a single pilot/crew aircraft. It is highly likely that a function had to be performed.

As aviation enthusiasts we must re-educate the masses who are ill informed by idiotic reporting by stupid journos. If you can, write to a paper or email a news web site and express your annoyance with their reporting. I did it a few years ago and got the late news amended.

Very sad indeed, was there, witnessed it, wished I hadn’t.

Condolescences to the families of the Firefly crew and also those of the CASA built He111.

My Swift F7 was and will be silver ‘down below’…..I am not sure if the Swift will go inside or not…we would have to ask the Museum!!

I believe it is privately owned (Dizzy Addicot?!)…as such, I suspect the priority for going undercover would be museum airframes. Having said that, would like to see it in the warm

    regards

We opened the museum one day and had 6000 people thru the gate…..we opened up several cockpits. One of our volunteers was treated to a tirade of abuse and threats from a dad when he suggested that little johnny did not pull the cockpit to bits…arghh!

Thanx Kev35 for posting the Spitty panel picture.

The ‘Toom panel was Mike Davey’s as was the F4 cockpit ISTR.

It was a great event as usual and great fun….next year it will be bigger so get your cockpit related collections out and join us…thanx to Bill O’Sullivan, Newark Air Museum (has to be one of the best and funnest laid back museums of all time) and of course Flypast for sponsoring it all.

Furthest visitor was Chris from the US who has a superb F111 cockpit (which is also the escape pod)….boy would I like him to bring that one year.

Oh well off to bed and then work…..yuk!

Interesting how a thread can wind its way off the beaten track to such an extent to decry the efforts of the Elvington Halifax!

You may like, or not like the YAM Halifax, you may think it deserves to be binned….on the latter you are WRONG. The YAM Halifax has had 1000s of hours (many by ex Halifax personnel) expended to make a fairly good facsimilie of a Halifax. It is more than just a representation…it is something tangible that shows respect for the often forgotten sacrifice made by Halifax aircrew. It is something for veterans to look at and remember days gone by. It is something that their grandchildren can be proud of.

The YAM guys are aviation preservationists, don’t decry their efforts until you have equalled them.

Suffolk is a darn site easier a starting point than mine….all you have to do is go along the A14 and then poodle off a little.

Moggy, it is the event sponsored by Flypast and covered extensively in the magazine. It is a good larf and fun to boot, and don’t worry my Pucara won’t be there!!:)
