RE: Flypast get together?
Sunday 5th sounds great and we can have Robert Rudhall’s talk
We could also see if car sharing is a possibility?
RE: Flypast get together?
As soon as Ashley has done her research we will be off! I am hoping for 4th or 5th January…..then I can make it.

RE: Just for a change
I thought she was XS509 Dave? I flew in XS509 in October 1992 and had the glorious job of ensuring some CCF cadets behaved themselves. One was the son of an extremely (still) annoying politician!
>Nice picture of XR509 – what a shame she is no longer

>the loss of the pilot.
RE: Just for a change
Very nice Geedee!
Nice to see some rote stuff for a change. Looks (from the angle of your shot of the Wessex at Boscombe Down) that you and I stood side by side at a Boscombe families day! Did you get a piccie of the splendid job the fireman at putting out the Dove ‘fire’?!
regards from an elated Tony who acquired a Belvedere grip today!!
RE: Forum Getogether?
Just to let you all know, this forum getogether is still on. It will hopefully be on the 4th/5th January 2003.
Ashley is just getting some figures together and we should have costs. It will then be up to you all to decide if it is a goer!!!
The aim will be to keep costs down.

RE: Bombing of Edinburgh in Scotland during WW2 (Edinburgh area)
The first Bombing raid (9 Ju88s of 1/KG30)on UK territory was on shipping Firth Of Forth, Monday Oct 16 1939, incidentally HMS Edinburgh was damaged.
The best books for this are ‘The Blitz Then & Now’ Vol 1,2 &3.
I have all three volumes and there are many Edinburgh entries

An itinery will be on its way soon!
Then we will be looking for interested people to register. The aim will be to keep the delta cost (to IWM entrance) for the Forum part as low as possible to cover necessary hire & BoB talk costs etc.

RE: Forum Getogether?
Thanx Becka/Ashley (I is so confused!)
I shall send another email to you and see if we can firm up a suitable itinery and possible costs. It will then be down to the forum to decide what they wish to include and what they wish to forget!!
regards
Tony
>Tony…can I just point something out to you? Ashley and
>Becka are the same person! 😛 Ashley is Becka and Becka is
>Ashley…hee hee 😉 😉 😉
RE: Forum Getogether?
Well, I have had some emails from Becka….is this Ashley I ask?
Anywhichway, Ashley & Becka seem to be able to get the crucial things we need for a get together. Robert Rudhall would be happy to give his famed BoBF slide show and rare video for petrol costs…..so howse about it?!

RE: Radio Times ‘Dambusters’ letter…
Chaps
the war is still emotive to many people. I have a friend who will never forgive the Japanese who despatched his uncle in an unspeakably hideous way. There are also many many tales of atrocities committed by the Germans in the war. It is obvious that they do feel bad about it (like I do about some of the things the Brits did over the centuries). No way should we hold modern Germany to task all the time over the war. I am the last person to bash modern day Germany or Japan as we are friends now. Unfortunately though, we (the world) are not good at learning from our mistakes…witness recent genocide in the world and Europe. The lady did make my blood boil as the Dambuster story is part of modern British history…..if you will indulge me, the following is what I sent to RT…..
“I thought that I had to reply to Britta Sporkmann’s letter in the last/latest excellent copy of RT. She complains about the Dambusters film and it being a very effective propaganda film 60 years ago and in this 21st Century should be left on ‘dusty archive shelf’. Well, no Ms Sporkmann I could not disagree more. The brave feat by the Dambusters should never be underestimated or forgotten. Sure the film is triumphant and has stirring music but we Brits are proud of our past and our brave boys who turned the tide against nazism. The Dams raid took the war to the enemy, stirred the British people and brought a ray of light in those dark days. Yes, 1600 German people regrettably died not to mention the 617 Squadron Lancaster crews (part of 56000 Bomber Command war dead and a similar mount of US bomber crews) but imagine how many were saved by the possible shortening of the war? In this 21st century it is important that we stamp genocide, fascism, racism, intolerance and inhumanity. In Europe we are quite rightly friends now and that is great. But we must not forget that nazism accounted for over 28million deaths, that is the lesson we all must learn and pass down to our children. We must not repeat those mistakes. However, heroic feats such as the Dams raids and the Battle of Britain show that even in despair there is hope.”

RE: Forum Getogether?
Dave
I am one step ahead of you….I have emailed Ken and asked if he would like to get involved and possibly Robert too!
The next stage is to get some idea of numbers and budgets and dates. The first weekend after New Year is a good time as it gets people to shake off the turkey and dream of warm days (ha!) and airshows.
Anyway…have a think guys
Regarding the Officers Mess, Ashley are any of the wood hut type school picnic rooms bookable? Or perhaps another sort of venue airside?!
If we could muster 30 to 40 people, we could perhaps get a close up viewing of a BoBF aircraft, close up viewing of 1190…..Ashley as you can see, you are the best person to call in some favours!! Feel free to email me off line and we could discuss an itinery that could be put to the forum?
regards
Tony

Lancman
thanx for drawing my attention to this! I am spoiling for a fight at the moment so here I go!!
Tony
>Well, I didn’t want to be the first one to say it myself…
>:P
RE: Forum Getogether?
Sounds great Ashley……I love it when a plan comes together!
We could start off earlyish…..how much would it cost to get one of the Officers Mess functions rooms? We could walk around the major sites, have some chatting, the odd talk, BoB quiz! and as you say BoB on the big screen.
For a larf, it could be a fancy (BoB) dress film showing?! Sorry getting a bit silly there. The weekend after NYD sounds pretty good methinx….blow away that turkey.
Philo could show us his slides….Each forum attendee could bring an example of the exact way aviation heritage affects their life (be it a photo album, model, collection or whatever).
Who knows, Ken Ellis may even like to come in too, as it is his, Flypast & Key’s forum!!
Keep us posted on possibilities Ashley, as long as my work does not pluck me away I am happy to help organise and get the ball rolling!
