Dakota flying north over Yaterley/Camberley today at 5.45
I would have agreed with Trumper above in that I couldn’t see this who would go and watch this however I was amazed to see BoxOfficeMojo lists Dunkirk as grossing $527m worldwide so it would seem there is indeed a market for historical remakes.
A few years ago on cricket tour south of Minehead 3 Herc’s flew over the ground so low you could see (but not read) the stencilling on the fuselages. Very impressive.
And at 18.05 the DC6 was over Bracknell heading towards Farnborough
Blackbushe…….although the main runway is still in use the other 2 aren’t and are open to the public.
I have a soft spot for this film because of where some of it was filmed. The “French chateau” still exists just south of Camberley and you can still walk around the surrounding area.
Any mark of low back
Perhaps the cylinder block melted in the flames just leaving the crankshaft? I’ll get my coat……
Saw it last night, thought it was a very good but not great film. My wife mentioned it was too loud but that’s not uncommon with modern films in my opinion.
I can overlook any technical inaccuracies (there weren’t that many that mattered
) but without spooling it for anyone else I would say the “propeller on a broomstick” in one important sequence could have been done better.
Wasn’t the majority of that sold to Canada some years ago to aid in a restoration there? I seem to recall that.
When I was there in early 2010 there was the complete wing tip-to-tip in the undergrowth behind the hangar, with cowlings and control surfaces and other sections stored underneath. Vertical tail, nose doors and rear end of fuselage plus engine and a bent prop in a shed. Other engine and bent prop in a semi-open hangar. IIRC the cockpit was sitting in the owners driveway under a tarp.

About a year ago I was talking to a guy who lives a couple of roads away and he was telling me about being involved in bringing back a Bristol Freighter to the UK, he seemed quite positive about getting it – I assume it’s the one mentioned here.
Slightly off topic but I was surprised to read that Typhoons (as in this case) were used on night intruder flights. Was this common?
I was there 2 years ago, great museum with some interesting video displays (They certainly caught Mrs B’s attention).
The indoor lighting made photography difficult and it must be the only place in the US where you can’t buy a coffee.
Agree on both counts…..!!!
Totally agree. As a result of this thread I went out and purchased Flypast yesterday and my first impression was big pictures, small text. The problem with printing text over images is that it can make it difficult to read.
As to paper quality that’s not an issue for me as I always read it in the bath 🙂
Ahhh… Thanks… I usually pick it up earlier than that.
I must admit I’ve been checking the post for the last week as it would normally have been here by now but if they are introducing a “gap” from Flypast that makes sense. After 2 weeks I’m ready for another magazine 🙂
On sale in the UK – Dec 10th
