I was given this as part of a box set. Basically the Russian spy is welcomed and immediately offered flights in all the latest USA fighters (or at least they were when filming started even if they were obsolete 8 years later when the film was released). Not sure why you would do that!!!
Seems to me it was just an excuse for Howard Hughes to to make a film using the latest US kit and he lost interest in it.
So given the owners address – would this have been based at Blackbushe?
Bomb door(s)???? Well that’s artistic licence for you…….
I should have said I was “re-reading” my copy. It must be about a year old and shows a Vulcan, Victor and Valiant.
I guess the dust covers have been changed when they reprinted.
Coincidently I was reading this book at the weekend (and can recommend it) but I was puzzled by the painting of the Vulcan on the front cover. What is that supposed to be slung underneath slightly offset to port???
Civil – growing up in a block of flats in Bedfont watching Vanguards and Britannias on finals for runway 05(?).
I don’t ever remember any Connies or DC4/6/7’s but it would have been early 60’s by then…..:-(
Military – Going on holiday every year to a caravan in Selsey and watching the Beverleys fly overhead from Thorney Island.
Never saw a Hastings… 🙁

Carrier already exists its called Great Britain
Wouldn’t the masts would get in the way……………
Dragon Rapide in and out of Blackbushe yesterday. Dark colour (blue?) but to far to see the reg. I understand it was doing pleasure flights. If I’d have known I would have had a couple of seats… 🙁
I stayed at the Best Western in Ironbridge – much to my surprise the restaurant was excellent. If I remember correctly it has Michelin stars.
Glastonbury – yes certainly different but good fun and the pub behind the square (The who’d have Thought it)was recommended by The Times….rooms were good but the food was again excellent. Also Clarkes shopping village is on the way to the FAA musuem!
B 17 over Yateley Hampshire heading north-east at about 13.00.
I have no preference for seeing the Halifax “as is” or restored but what I found confusing was (if my memory serves me correctly) the turrets HAD been restored.
I’d say all or nothing – anything else just isn’t right.
I think I see what you mean…you are suggesting bottom left to top right?
Surely the still standing streetlamp says it didn’t come in left to right? Did it come over the garage?
Spitfire just passed over Yateley heading south east. Looked like a merlin version but I only caught the rear view by the time I saw it.
