Jaguar XX109???
Landed in 450yds and took off in 600. There is a picture taken from the other side in Andy Evans Crowood Press book “Sepecat Jaguar”.
I visited this musuem a few years ago – when I phoned in advance and the receptionist told me to allow 2 days I thought she was joking!
And the thing that always sticks in my mind is standing behind the XB-70 and staring up at that row of massive jet pipes across the back……
Bazza
Hydraulic lock is a serious business and can cause a substantial amount of damage and I think I’m right in saying that pulling the prop thro by hand is only to indicate if a lock is present not clear it – you still have to take the plugs out for that surely???
Interesting point about the DB and Junkers inverted engines – even though they are dry sump there must be enough residual oil that could collect and potentially cause damage?
My understanding is that this procedure is to clear oil that may have gathered in the lower cylinders thereby avoiding an hydraulic lock when starting the engine.
What about Boeing 747-121 N473ev that starred in Die Hard 2 – amazing how an engine can ingest a man whole and not suffer any ill effects……..
My other half tells me there are 2 Harriers beating up Farnborough right now with another 6 due in this week for scrapping????
How about “Flying Tigers” starring John Wayne and John Carroll which was made in 1942. Plenty of mock-up P-40’s with no elevators or ailerons but with the very unusual Capelis XC-12 which was a real aircraft that basically ended up as just a film prop.
pagen01,
Yes that would fit – launch of Farnborough 2010.
Apparently they generated a lot of interest in the offices overlooking the airfield.
Spitfire flown past Blackbushe in formation with 4 smaller aircraft about 30 mins ago. They went on to do a display at Farnborough. Haven’t come back this way.
Just realised it was the Vimy heading for Fairoaks.
Very large biplane just flown over Blackbushe heading east – only saw it at the last minute so I’m not 100% certain but could it have been the Vimy?
Harrier and a Puma travelling south on the M3 – just passing Fleet Services
Heading south past Fleet on the M3 yesterday – flatbed lorry with 4 wheel main undercarrige bogey and an engine on the back.
Engine had an air intake (turbocompressor) in the pylon so maybe a JT3D from a 707???
DaveR – PM sent
An IL18 might turn out to be a good call….I certainly don’t think it’s a DC4. Engine nacelles are to long and the wing is slender with square(ish) tips.
