No offence taken.
I did think it was parked a bit to close to the runway though. And if that is it I am surprised it’s in one piece after all this time.
Just goes to show they aren’t all hidden in barns! 🙂
I’m using Google Earth. I reckon that is it – tailplane looks right too.
Any suggestions to what the large 4 engined propliner is halfway down the runway? Could that be it? Difficult to tell as the resolution isn’t good.
It certainly seems to tie in with village and the goalposts in the background.
Regarding the Sabre at Ricardo’s – My brother-in-law works there and he confirmed he has seen the engine and that it was put into store along with all the other “interesting” items. As far as he is aware they are all still in store.
Didn’t Corsairs have serious issues? Was it the Brewster built aircraft? And didn’t they end up in a training role or were they shipped to the FAA?
I’m at work so doing this from memory!
Sort of aviation related – my all time favorite is “Crash Call”. War Picture Library but a Commando if I remember correctly.
RAF Air Sea Rescue Launch 2757 goes all the way to a Norweigen fjord to rescue the crew of a Catalina who were shot down on a photo recon mission. To escape they have to sail through a wall of flame produced by an underwater variation of the British FIDO equipment!

For those of you who missed Thursdays flypast…..

Vulcan is supposed to land at 12.31 tomorrow.
I just noticed in “Spotted” that Plane Space reported a Spitfire over Sandhurst this afternoon so I guess there could be some truth in this.
But I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for the Vulcan.
Large 4 engined propliner just flown over Blackbushe heading north – I only saw it at the last minute but looked like the DC6.

If the MOD need to raise funds to maintain HMS Vistory and the BBMF then all they need to do is sell off some of those 70+ Spitfires stored in those underground hangers…………
Sorry – couldn’t resist that.
If I recall correctly as you head south from Kemble to join the M4 aren’t there some hangers on the right (now an army base???) camoflaged just as Paul F describes.
This is a great story (and I hope it’s true!) but I just can’t believe it. The odd plane in a barn will turn up from time to time but 70+ Sptifires in an underground hanger – no.
I clearly remember watching the last few displays that day from the car. The guy next to us decided that he would get a better view by standing on the roof of his car (wearing wellingtons!).
I saw him there then looked away….heard a muffled cry and a thud…turned back to look but he had gone – didn’t think anything of it. A few moments later he slowly appeared in our drivers door window pulling himself up on our door handle looking very dazed.
Almost 40 years later and I still remember that!
Thanks
