    no idea where your sources are, but it seemed to me that the plus-one fighter project was down to J-10, JAS-39 and F-16. In which J-10 won out, F-16 order was cut down. As for your link, don’t think that conclusively proves anything.

    NO J-10 Always was there for a Fighter contract to which PAF always refered as High Tech fighter other then F-16

    When Kanwa interviewed with Pakistani military in the March edition, it was mentionned that PN is contacting China regarding 054 series. But of course, since 054A hasn’t even entered PLAN, this kind of deal is not concluding anytime soon.

    As for J-10 deal, they are just trying to get the best deal by inviting for European solution. Remember, there hasn’t been an export version of J-10. On top of that PAF is looking for a far more multirole radar than what J-10 is currently using. So, obviously they don’t have a radar that is exportable and PAF wants right now. But that will change, PAF just needs to give China the requirements. I’ve been saying all along, for all of this talk, JF-17’s second batch will be using Chinese avionics/radar and so will J-10 once it’s allowed to be exported.

    i agree with first part and here is a answer to the question of this thread

    Pakistan’s defence forces are currently undergoing extensive modernisation. Plans have been approved for the acquisition of state-of-the-art weapons systems, including about 70 F-16 fighter planes from the United States, reconnaissance planes from Switzerland, several warships from Greece and China as well as the submarines from Germany
    http://nation.com.pk/daily/jun-2007/10/index3.php

    Perhapes Confusing Sweden with Switzerland:D
    but what i said about European solution was a thing that happened before President Pervez Musharraf intervened and decided to go for Fc-20(PAF’s J-10)
    PAF high officals because of thir tranning and close relationship etc wanted to go for EF-2000 (which was available before and after the F-16 deal )or JAS-39 (which is thought to became available after the F-16 deal)
    But that is thing of past and i think this is not a right place to discuss it

    I loved the MiG-25, it was sad to see it out of service in the Indian air force. What a beautiful beast!! I would love to see the MiG-31 get some international orders. Who knows, maybe India would buy some for recon.

    How much advantage they offer interm of Radar range and performence wise to IAF????????

    another mediocre chinese frigate? You obviously have zero clue what you are talking about. Why don’t you explain to me how great this Milgem is?

    Pakistan has already started discussion with China on 054 series according to kanwa, but the question is whether China will sell it at this stage.

    If they are already discussing it that means that China is ready so question is Will be is PN going for 054????
    PN is looking more at new western Multirole Frigate from Germany/France/USA
    To be honest I think that in the end P.Mushraf will have to get involved just like he did in J-10 deal where PAF was looking at European solution and was not heappy with Avionics& Radar etc

    This deal of four new Frigate is independent of secondhand purchases

    An MKI with 6 underwing pylons carrying R77/RVV-AE or R-27RE1/TE1/EP is sufficient to predict the outcome.

    Opps you just missed little things like 500 AIM-120 C5 for 96 odd F16 Block 52+&MLU3 and Hundereds of SD-10 for JF-17/J-10:diablo:

    Sources also revealed that Pakistan would start getting supply of 18 planes of the latest version of US F-16 from next month. The test flights of first batch of F-16 Block 50/52 made for Pakistan have been initiated and the same would be on its way to Pakistan some time next month. The supply of the whole USD three billion package including 26 planes of embargoed version of A/B of F-16 will be completed in 2009. Pakistan also has an option to buy another batch of brand new F-16 Block 50/52 fitted with weapon system, but Islamabad still has to make up its mind in this regard, the sources added.

    Pakistan – E-2C Hawkeye 2000 Airborne Early Warning Suite for P-3s
    WASHINGTON, December 07, 2006 – The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of a possible Foreign Military Sale to Pakistan for refurbishment and modification of three excess P-3 aircraft with the E-2C HAWKEYE 2000 Airborne Early Warning (AEW) Suite, as well as associated equipment and services. The total value, if all options are exercised, could be as high as $855million.

    The Government of Pakistan has requested a possible sale for refurbishment and modification of three excess P-3 aircraft with the E-2C HAWKEYE 2000 Airborne Early Warning (AEW) Suite, spare and repairs parts, simulators, support equipment, personnel training and training equipment, publications and technical data, system software development and installation, ground/flight testing of new systems and system modifications, U.S. Government and contractor engineering and logistics support services, and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $855 million.

    This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a friendly country that has been and continues to be an important force for economic progress in South Asia and a partner in the global war on terrorism. The command-and-control capabilities of these aircraft will improve Pakistan’s ability to restrict the littoral movement of terrorists along Pakistan’s southern border and ensure Pakistan’s overall ability to maintain integrity of its borders.

    Pakistan intends to use the proposed equipment to develop an effective air defense network for its naval forces and provide an AEW surveillance and enhanced command, control, and communications capability. The addition of the AEW suites will provide Pakistan with search surveillance, and control capability in support of maritime interdiction operations. These aircraft will also increase Pakistan’s ability to support the U.S. Operation Enduring Freedom operations, and provide anti-ship and anti-submarine warfare capabilities; and a control capability over land against transnational terrorists and narcotics smugglers. The modernization will enhance the capabilities of the Pakistani Navy and support its regional influence and meet its legitimate self-defense needs. Pakistan will have no difficulty absorbing the AEW platform into its armed forces.

    The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not affect the basic military balance in the region. The prime contractor will be Northrop Grumman Corporation, St. Augustine, Florida and Lockheed-Martin, Greenville, South Carolina. There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale. Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any U.S. Government and contractor representatives to Pakistan. There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale. This notice of a potential sale is required by law; it does not mean that the sale has been concluded.

    Yet, they still offer pretty much the same degree of capability in an air-to-air role. That’s part of the reason why upgrading older aircraft can be an attractive option: you get the capability without the extra expense of a new purchase.

    can u tell me the max range at which MIG-21BISN fired a BVR????????????

    Pakistan, China sign deal to develop long-range radar
    Updated at 1100 PST
    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have agreed to jointly develop long-range radar equipped early warning aircraft, the Pakistan Air Force said Friday in a statement.

    The announcement came during a visit to the country by Chinese President Hu Jintao in which the two allies are expected to discuss expanding ties in the defense, nuclear, economic and trade sectors.

    The Pakistan Air Force and Chinese Aviation Industries agreed “for long term collaboration and co-development in the fields of aircraft manufacturing and other related fields including AWACS,” the PAF said.

    It said a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Islamabad between the PAF and the Chinese Aviation Company, CETC, for the improvement and further development of Chinese Airborne Early Warning System. “The same may be delivered to Pakistan in coming years,” the statement said.

    MRTP-33

    http://www.yonca-onuk.com/images_800/tekneler/mtp_33.jpg

    THE 33 METRE Fast Patrol / Attack Craft
    The advanced composite ONUK MRTP®33 Fast Patrol / Attack Craft is the extended and improved version of the 90 tonne ONUK MRTP®29 (“KAAN 29” Class) of the Turkish Coast Guard. ONUK MRTP®33 is developed as a versatile multi role platform for the increasingly tough requirements of the naval and law enforcement forces to control the littoral and the coastal waters.
    Internally, the advanced machinery systems and arrangement result in a vessel with greatly enhanced operability, maintainability and accommodation standards.

    PRIMARY ROLES
    Mastery of the littoral can not be presumed. It does not derive directly from command of the high seas. It is an objective which requires our focused skills and resources. ONUK MRTP®33 “Fast Patrol / Attack Craft” has been designed for this purpose, capable of carrying out a wide range of littoral and coastal water law enforcement-naval duties and open sea rescue, including:
    Patrol / Escort / Fast attack
    Search and rescue
    Anti smuggling
    Pollution control
    Anti terrorist protection of the coastal and offshore installations
    Surveillance / Covert surveillance
    Seal insertion-extraction

    BACKGROUND:
    As of January 2004, 9 units of the “KAAN 29” Class boats (31,70m, 45+ knots) under DNV classification (HSLC Patrol R2) are operational. Boat number 10 of 90 tonne was constructed as the first ONUK MRTP®33 (35,60m, 120 tonne, 47+ knots) as continuation of the project others are under construction at the shipyard.

    The new member of the MRTP® (Multi Role Tactical Platform) family of boats, a concept created and developed by Kaan N.Z. Onuk; has improved sea keeping, highly stealthy characteristics, and is able to carry larger mission equipment/payload such as combined 30mm gun and short range SSM stabilized launcher, surface-to-surface medium range F&F fiber guided missiles, EO fire control systems and decoys.

    PERFORMANCE:
    Speed and seakeeping:
    The ONUK MRTP®33 has been developed for a tough professional use with excellent performance qualities at both low and high speeds and strong emphasis on seakeeping. The ONUK OE-01 deep V hull, depending on engine selection and boat configuration, will enable the boat to reach speeds up to 64 knots in calm waters and up to 40 knots in Sea State 4. ONUK MRTP®33 has a soft and dry ride in adverse conditions, offering, thus, an outstanding platform for the various tasks in the brown waters and the open sea.

    The MJP water jet drive system provides extreme maneuverability with high precision control and a very shallow draught, enhancing the operation in confined waters or intercepting/boarding larger ships in rough seas.

    Stability: Intact-Damaged:
    Commercial and Turkish / NATO naval standards have been applied to the ONUK MRTP®33 for the intact and damaged stability. ONUK MRTP®33 meets the DNV standards as well as Turkish Navy and NATO criteria for damaged stability and will remain afloat and upright with flooding in any single main compartment.

    CONSTRUCTION AND COMPONENTS:
    ONUK MRTP®33 is built in advanced composites to satisfy the very tough requirements of an intensive professional use together with a long service life. The benefits of the advanced composite structure are:

    WEIGHT REDUCTION
    * Improved Performance
    * Increased Payload
    * Fuel Savings

    CORROSION RESISTANCE
    *Longer service life
    * Maintenance savings

    IMPROVED
    * Threat avoidance/detection
    * Ballistic protection

    REDUCED SIGNATURES
    * Machinery vibration/acoustic
    * Magnetic signature
    * Heat signature

    The hull and superstructure are constructed to Det Norske Veritas (DNV) HSLC Patrol R2 classification. All boats of the series are delivered with the relevant DNV Certificates.

    The helm station and the interiors have been designed in line with the SAE recommendations for ergonomics to provide the crew with maximum comfort and minimum fatigue in prolonged use in heavy seas.

    Machinery and propulsion
    The CODAG high-speed propulsion system consists of two MTU 16V2000M90 diesels and a Honeywell TF50 gas turbine; all driving through MJP water jets. The diesels will allow 28 knots patrol speed, while the gas turbine will enable the boat to reach it’s maximum speed. CODOG and all diesel propulsion systems are available on request. Depending on the mission and speed requirements, the ONUK MRTP®33 can be equipped with different components for optimum operational efficiency/price ratio.

    The mechanical components are selected with the intensive professional use in mind. They offer a high level of reliability, despite the extreme performance requirements.

    MISSION MODULES
    ONUK MRTP®33 can be equipped with various mission modules depending on the customer requirements. Despite the size of the platform, these modules have been integrated with the modularity and reconfigurability objectives in mind. Thus, the platform can be reconfigured with different mission modules, increasing dramatically the operational flexibility and reducing the costs. The mission modules would be:
    Multi weapon mounts.
    – Stabilized naval turret with up to 30 mm. gun
    (+ short range SSM).
    – Medium range SSM (Total weights up to 5 tons).
    – Short range SAM.
    – 2 x 12.7 mm. heavy MG.
    Multi sensor surveillance unit
    (EOD with capabilty of controlling the main gun).
    Search and rescue equipment
    Decoys
    SOF (Special Operation Forces) support/SDV (Seal Delivery Vehicle)
    Pollution control

    Pakistan acquires capability to develop N-sub

    By Hanif Khalid

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has acquired the capability of developing its own nuclear submarine. Pakistani scientists and the engineers have developed indigenous technology for building the nuclear submarines at the existing facilities. This capability will strengthen the naval defence of the country. President Gen Pervez Musharraf will discuss this matter with the Chinese President during his visit to Islamabad in November this year.

    Pakistan started exploring alternative sources and strategies to bridge the wide gap with India in conventional and strategic weapons/forces to sustain its independence and sovereignty. The gap was widening due to the United State’s tilt towards India as compared to Pakistan. According to a military comparison, Indo-Pak conventional and strategic asymmetries until now are not primarily in favour of Pakistan.
