    Good on you Richard!
It would be nice to see Elsie’s remains back home where they belong.

The 617 Lanc is “Easy Elsie”. It was discussed here a few years ago.

This week a seafood company based in Scotland announced it will transport prawns from the uk to Thailand to be shelled, then transport them all the way back here again to be packaged.Apparently its cheaper than using the local labour.
What is the point in joe public trying to reduce his “carbon footprint” when this sort of thing is going on?

Going back and editing something printed in 1939 sets a reather dangerous historical precedent I think. It has to be seen in the context of its time and left at that.

There are still some prefab houses here in West Lothian. Those Ive been in are always nice and cosy, and well cared for.

This book deserves to become a classic.
Fascinating references to low flying out in the states and the Vulcan flying through the Grand Canyon. Boy, that would be something to see from above!
If you have a look at Google Earth, there are still bomb craters visible apparently created by the Black Buck raids adjacent to a runway. Incidentally, there was an article in Aircraft Illustrated I think, months ago about 597’s traumatic incident with the broken probe and subsequent very close to the bone landing in Rio.

What about volcanoes? There are tons of active volcanoes on land and underwater that have spewed out toxic gases for millions of years. How do you put a filter on them? Then you have had massive volcanic eruptions like Santorini, Krakatora, and Tambora, plus lesser eruptions like Vesuivius, Mount Pelee, Mount St. Helens, Mount Pinatubo and Nevado del Ruiz that make an atomic bomb blast look like a firecracker. Plus each eruption threw more toxic soot into the air than the entire human industrial revolution. Each eruption effected brief climate change that ranged from a few days (St Helens, global temperature dropped one degree) or up to a year (Tambora, 1816 a year without summer).

Agree with the idea that pollution can and should be controlled but climate change cannot be stopped. Earth’s climate was very different a billion years ago and has been changing long before humans walked the earth.

The US has had emission laws on the books for years for cars, factories, power plants and landfills. I have lived less than 10km from a coal fired power plant and landfill for over 15 years and there have never been any environmental problems in my neck of the woods. In fact the area I live in has undergone a major build up of homes and businesses since my family moved here and no one has ever raised a stink about the power plant or landfill and all know about it.

What has Eastern Europe, Russia, China, India and the developing Third World nations done to stop their pollution? Have they signed the Kyoto Treaty?

Perhaps they dont need an excuse to put taxes up.

All this one sided environmental evangelism is becoming very tiresome.Any scientific hypothesis has more than one point of view so why do we never hear any other angle on climate change?
The UK contributes something like 2% to this, so in reality anything we do matters little. It has to be tackled on a global scale, not just by swelling government coffers via a simple knee jerk reaction to an economists report.
Just an excuse to raise taxes by making us all feel guilty I fear.
