RE: Project FM159
Yup, thats the beastie! And, the hottest lorry there is!
RE: Scottish
As you will already know, I’m a Jock, and so is Merlin.
RE: Airshow Irritations!
Hear Hear!
Wish we still had the Cumbernauld airshow. Great photography potential from the hill overlooking the strip and intimate atmosphere.Wonder what happened to it?-and, while I’m on the subject-whatever happened to Prestwick?
Barra’s a bit remote for me as well, but good to hear its going on .
RE: Project FM159
Wasn’t there an article in FlyPast about a company that specialises in refurbishing Merlins-some time in the past year. May be what Lancman is referring to?
RE: Airshow Irritations!
Folks from down south moaning about too many of this or that, when we folks north of the border only have access to two decent airshows a year.
RE: Scrapheap Challenge UK v USA v France
I was amazed to see the wing construction on one of the planes was the same technique I use when building r/c models.
Now, there’s an idea!
RE: Connie’s in Europe
Wow!
Fabulous photo!
RE: They all look good !
Exactly my point Merlin. Aren’t we all lucky to be able to see and hear a flying Lanc. Museums are full of sterile dust traps. They have their place, but when aircraft like this are in their own element, nothing compares.
RE: They all look good !
And, when you sum it all up, does it really matter? We’re lucky to be able to see 474 in flight, and for that, I’m sure we’re all grateful.
Imagine, for a minute that the number on the fuselage of 474 was XH558.
RE: The best Looking Lancaster around???
I think we’ve had this conversation before.
RE: Nose Art
“I blow my nose at you and ffff#rt in your general direction!”
RE: Nose Art
Bob- would that be the knights who say “nee” by any chance?
Thanks for all the replies chaps. Curiosity satisfied- one thing though, and its getting slightly away from the scope of this forum- If we drive on the left because of the old horse mounting business-why does the rest of the world drive on the right?
RE: 558 hopes dashed ?
Lancman’s right Scott. Goodwill from a small bunch of enthusiasts will not lift her into the air again. I think we all know that but may not want to admit the fact.
RE: FlyPast article on airfield dumpsites
I agree entirely. This section was what sparked my interest in FlyPast and its a great pity they’re not doing it now-especially with all the finds in Europe mentioned earlier in this thread.
The proposed “Easy Elsie” recovery would make a great article.
RE: Brussels Museum – Battle
Cheers ageorge. You should have them by now. A look in my old album confirmed I was right about the Hudson. Somewhere in my archives is a Strathallan brochure, with a list of all their airframes, at the height of Strathallans short career. If I can find it, I’ll pass on details of the other planes. I vaguely remember they had a Klemm (G-AAUP I think) and a Reid and Sigrist Desford (ugly looking beast)
Let me know if you got the photos, and if you can figure out how to post them to this forum, feel free. I’m sure the Lancman would like them. No budgie perches!
