Never expected to see this thread resurrected! XH672 certainly looks good, must try and get along this year to have a look before she disappears inside the new cold war building.
The blenheim/tornado formation was seen at Finningley (1993) as Steve says, the BBMF were still doing the F3/Spit formation as late as 1992 (Coningsby) too…
nope, but VirtualDub does 🙂
I made it 1.24 seconds of footage actually (31 frames) 😉
Did wartime Halifaxes have nice large numbers on the underside of the wing like this?
Some lovely images here, looking forward to seeing two of these machines in the air together. A few from me…

Is this G-BPUD, HP? Been scanning some old negs this evening, and I don’t think its your machine I’ve seen at Old Walden, or the ex Breighton example?
Photos taken at Finningley Airshow, 21 Sept 1991
(If it isn’t G-BPUD, any ideas on its correct ID?)
cheers
Gareth
The swiss hunter at Bruntingthorpe has been doing its taxi runs sans canopy this season, allegedly after some helpful member of public decided to see what _that_ leaver would do, when on a cockpit visit 😮
The story of a child being killed by a live ejection seat is tragically true, happened in an S3 Viking back in 1980 at Willow Grove in the states..
XH672 ‘Maid Marian’ (landing) and XL231 ‘Lusty Lindy’ (overflying) at RAF Finningley arrivals day, 1993.
Blimey, never expected this thread to be resurrected! I’ll have a look and sort out what photos I’ve got Howard, do you want to PM me an email address to send them to?
It does look rather ‘draggy’ to be open in flight doesn’t it? (The aircraft was preforming a flyby, rather than taking off or landing)
Unmolested copy attached, looks a bit better without my graffiti on it doesn’t it? 🙂
…..especially when someone goes to the trouble of finding the correct cutaway and posting it, very kind of you.
Just noticed the intake is open on XH672 ‘Maid Marian’ too, strange I’ve been looking at Victors for years and never noticed it – should be more observant I guess!! 😮
Brilliant!!
Ah I see, thanks Papa Lima much appreciated. 🙂 Who needs reference books when this forums here!
Brilliant!! Thanks for posting 🙂
Looks like typical Finningley Weather!
Thanks for post them, brings back many memories. I keep looking for a ‘plane mad 12 year old dragging his long suffering parents around the static in the rain 😀 😀
