looking at the Tu-128 and pilot photo got me thinking.. i wonder what the old Fiddler was like to fly and operate… if they where enything like there Blinder cousins.. they would have been ” a bit of a handful “.. the pilot looks a bit p***** off dont he…. if i was flying the biggest interceptor ever made i would be grinning from ear to ear…. he’s probably cold…. 😀
i remember seeing somewhere a Ju-88 in RAF markings..i think it landed [ by force, or mistake ] in England sometime during the war.. it was then evaluated by the RAF, and gave her RAF roundels…. it would have took a very brave crew to fly her over Britain then….
wasnt a captured B-17 or something shot down by German fighters….
the good old Bucc… fantastic pictures there of one of my faves…. 😀
is the old Bullpup still used by eny airforce these days ????..
More of an S-bomber actually :diablo:
well in a way it was the first V-Bomber.. it was built more as a insurence in case eny of the more advanced, real V-Bombers had failed…its more of a missing link i think, between the Lincoln and the Valiant… 🙂
the missus told me about that when i got home from work…..but she said it was a BATTLESHIP !!!!!!. at least she tries… 😀
too right mate……. 😉
i may be wrong but the La-15, ASCC name Fantail, did enter limited service, a unknown number, possibly 100 was built . i would of thought that there time in service would have been very short. as the Mig-15 was far better. two prototypes of a two seat trainer was also built the La-15 UTI.
another [ very odd looking ] Lavochkin that never entered production was the La-200. has enyone eny photos. 🙂
i would think that all carrier based aircraft have a high loss rate, not the fault of the aircraft but the conditions they operate in…
i mentioned the Thud because how meny was lost over Vietnam. it was something like 70% of the production, i may be wrong.
the Tu-22 Blinder had a high attrition rate i belive.
i do not get that every time the Tu-126 Moss is mentiond, propeller interfearence is always mentioned…what did the RAF and the USAF use before the E-3 AWACS, what AWACS platform do the US navy, French navy use, the Hawkeye, they have turboprops dont they…
i am very very sorry if i offended enyone with my comment about preserving cockpits. the reason being i put that in my post was seeing on another thread in this forum, people are cutting up a Trident in the veiw of just keeping the cockpit… to be honest with you it made me a bit mad to say the least. the people who restore and preserve aircraft cockpits do a fantastic job, obviosly not everyone has the space and money to keep and restore a whole airframe. im sorry i hate the thought of putting a gas cutter enywhere near a vintage or classic machine.
i wonder how much a Buccaneer cockpit is…
so are we going to see a mossie flying in Great Britain again. i hope so.. i mean it is one of the best Great British aircraft that was ever made…sometimes i really cant belive this country i live in… a airworthy mosquito should be part of a national collection…like the crown jewells, or the mappa mundi !!!!!!!!. 😡
that has made my day..fantastic…. 🙂
what other german WW2 types have been recovered in Russia. there must be hundreds out there. am i right in saying a couple of [almost intact] stukas was found a few years back ????.
the victor and buccanner one is the best ive seen. the gannet one inspired me to post a thread about them… .. i hope they make one about the scimitar….that would be interesting..
or crappie stealthy flying wing, poor excuse for a aircraft type thing, or worse still, sodding pilotless [radio controlled] crap… 😉
didnt russia use An-30 Clanks…
