    i think what you have to remember in veitnam,the F-111 was straight out of the box if you like .. the TFR they carried was state of the art. obviously teething peoblems where encounterd. this gave the pig a bad reputation from the start…but they did evolve to be a very capable aircraft [just ask the libiyans], who knows the su-24 may have had the same problems when they enterd service.

    [QUOTE=PhantomII

    Anyone have performance data for its radar (what was it even called?) and Ash missiles? (AA-5?)

    i do know of the tu-128 fiddlers specs,tough i dont know how accurate they are….they where equiped with the RP-5M smerch-M fire control radar,NATO code BIG NOSE.with a detection range of about 150km and a lock on range of about 45km..a upgaded version of this radar was fitted to the mig-25 foxbat.
    as to the missiles they carried,they where the R-4PM and R-4TM,radar and IR guided missiles.NATO code AA-5 ash.with ranges of 40km for the radar and 25km for the IR guided versions….

    i see you found the su-11, nastle…they look great dont they. did the su-11 actually enter service. its just ive had conflicting reports,one says about 500 was made [or modified from su-9] and the other says that only 1 development regiment operated them for a short time..so im not sure..they probabley had a very short career enyway because su-15s enterd service a few years later…

    i agree, i think the pr9s are getting on to 45 years old now.but they are going out of service soon…what a pity…is there eny dakotas still flying for some airforces somewhere.i know south africa used them,do they still or not…
    also albania or somewhere like that,used a couple of soviet built il-28 beagles for target towing until recently.

    im not sure what you are getting at there, but to say the 111 and fencer are not comparable is wrong,they where both designed as a long to medieum range low leval interdictors,delivering nuclear or guided conventional weapons…yes they do look similar, but thats more then just coincedence.
    to say a tornado has more in common with the A-10 or su-25,i think you are getting the tornado mixed up with the jaguar.

    no the 111 never had a internal gun, but couldent they carry a M-61 in there bomb bay.i mite be wrong though..and im pretty sure a 111 could carry winders for self defence,as the su-24 could carry aphids,ive never seen one with archers though…

    [QUOTE=Hornchurch]Dream on, you’ve got more chance of swimming to the moon !

    i know wat you mean…it is a great pity though i think..dont get me wrong, it is fantastic to see the BBMF and other british warbirds flying..but it would be great to see some of the lesser known aircraft of the war flying too…i would give enything to see a halifax,stirling,wellington or a typhoon flying again…enyone agree…

    i think the 111 had the biggest bomb load,while the fencer a tornado are about the same,give or take a few pounds….in my opinion all three aircraft could be classed in the same league..all three have a tactical and stratigic role..there was the FB-111 though, wich was deployed in SAC,and was described as a stratigic bomber,the F-111E,F-111Fs where used in a more tactical theme…but all three aircraft could deploy nuclear waepons,stratigicly or tacticaly….

    thanks mate

    i wondered when a fishpot would turn up..looks like a mig-21s big bro dont it..the fishpot is probably the least phographed soviet fighter..sorry i mean interceptor…i think the su-11 fishpot c looks better,with them anabs instead of the alkalis…correct me if im wrong but didnt the su-15 replace the su-9/11,so they wasnt in service for long..keep the pics of soviet interceptors coming chaps…

    living in hereford i see a a-109 almost every day the SAS are about 5 miles down the road…they have at least 1 grey one with no markings [at all],and they have a cival coloued 1..they did have a black 1 but i havnt seen that for ages…mind you the speed they come over i probabley missed it..the grey 1 last year done a paradrop for a school fate,and landed on the playing field after..it looked fantastic…it didnt even have a serial number!!!!!!!.
